It's finally Home!!! My Black Beauty! 2001 SL500. PICS!!
Car is practically brand new with only 10k miles on it. Too bad the warranty went out in August, and now I have to look for a 3rd party warranty.
Check out the Pics and I can't wait until summer! Now, how much does the AMG rims cost?

awesome!! But in 2001 the SL500 came standard with the AMG sports package, didn't it?? I think you could get it without the sports package with no charge though, I'm not sure...Looks great though!!

What white mark are you talking about? Maybe it's the soap that was left behind from washing. Yeah, the car is great and I gorgeous. Just need warranty right now. I don't know why this didn't come with the AMG package, but can someone tell me what's included in the AMG package, other then the rims? Was the shocks and springs change on them? Thanks

More to the point, what do "Baker" think they are doing by defacing the car like that. Is it painted on? If it is, a repray would be my first priority. It looks awful.

Your car looks great! I have the exact same model sports package and all. Pls. keep in touch with me as you add on. Im always looking to improve my car. For example I'd like new headlights (blue/Xeon) i think they are? Also looking to add a nav GPS unit without having an extra component hanging off the dash. I'd love to pick your brain about the little things that bug me such as the inability to see the temp dash at night.
Keep in touch and take care of that car!

You said ... the little things that bug me such as the inability to see the temp dash at night.
I reported that problem to the service department at my last maintenance visit. Also told them of what I heard the fix was:
"The temperature / Air Conditioning display does not illuminate with the dash board lights at night. It also shows distorted numbers, letters and symbols quite often. Pressing the plastic trim surround corrects the distortion temporarily.
I have read on the MB Enthusiasts Forum that this can be fixed for about $ 32.25 by changing a light bulb (002-544-02-94 light bulb)."
They replaced the entire Temp Control Face Plate under the extended warranty.
The unit now lights up even a bit brighter than the Audio Control Face Plate at night

OK, here's the deal on the instrument panel lighting. There's something like 19 lights for the individual warning lights, 2 slightly higher wattage lights for the LCD backlight and 4 2W bulds for the main panel illumination.
To remove the instrument panel do NOT use a lever around the edge, you risk cracking the plastic and damaging the surround. To get it out, remove the piece of trim above the driver's knee (3 screws at the top, 2 bolts at the bottom), then reach up and push the instrument panel forwards from behind. There are then 4 connectors to undo and it lifts straight out. If you are replacing any of the bulbs, it's worth replacing all the ones which are on more of the time - the instrument panel lighting (2W), the two LCD backlight bulbs (which have a beige mount, the lower power ones are blue) and the bulbs for the left/right indicator.
Another tip: to get the panel out, lower the steering wheel and extend it back as far as it will go. When you replace it, smear vaseline or other rubber-friendly lucticant on the 4 positions, 2 on the top, 2 on the bottom, where it's held in place. This will allow the panel to go back in easily.
If the LED is showing intermittent segments, it's probably because it's making intermittent contact. You can dismantle it with a couple of screws, clean the rubber connector strips with something like iso-propyl alcohol and then re-seat the LCD display. Check everything works after you reconnect but before you slide the panel back in.

Looks very clean. What's up with the dealer logo on the rear? I hate when they
do that.
do that.
