I am not a dealer, just someone that wants to have a toy that makes nice sounds.
Please forward any leads that anyone may have. I will buy your low milage late model SL600. I prefer black/black but will concider other color combinations. White with a tan top would be nice too! I would like a Panorama top. All original is a plus, as is one with all the records. Preferably not a Sport package, but will concider that as well.
Thanks
Matt

My initial impression. Hummmmhhhh. Awesome!

I am kind of a wrench. Not a professional by any stretch. But I enjoy maintaining my own vehicles. I have owned my 400E for 185,000 miles now. It still drives like new. Mercedes are unbelievably well built cars and easy to maintain.
Yet I had never driven an SL except for a two mile test drive in a 100,000 mile 1992 SL500 being sold locally. I didn’t care. I knew what I wanted. I knew what we needed! Can anybody relate to this!
But I had no idea what I was getting into. I thought I wanted something that looked sporty yet drove cushy. Something silky and smooooooooth. I did not want a “Sports Car”. I wanted a luxury car that we could take the top off and see the world.
Then it happened. The trucker called me and said, “Here I am! I have something for you! The Gods have sent me to give you a gift that they say you need……….. really BAD!”
I don’t think that he really said that, but that is what I heard.
The SL600 is much more of a Sports Car than I thought it was going to be. The ride is stiffer and the wind noise with the top on is ever so slight but noticeable. You can not feel the motor at all at the stop light, so I found myself looking at the tachometer to make sure that it was still running. The response to steering input is instantaneous. There are more buttons and adjustments to the accoutrements within that it will take me a while to figure everything out. At least until the Owners Manual gets here. The guide to my new life, if you will.
So, this may be much more than you asked for, but you asked.

Being a wrench ... you will have years of learning about this car ahead of you.

I wonder how many miles the 1999 SLs can handle before they become uneconomical to maintain?

my 87 has 100k+ miles now

I abuse it everytime i drive it. Stomp on the gas, slam on the brakes, take corners hard.

Love the damn car. With 98-99k miles I still raced it

Car is a bullet, just amazing. Oh and the only maint. i do is oil and tranny fluid. I do oil myself and the tranny I wish I had the ***** to do myself.

A 1987 ... 560SL? Sounds like fun!

I wonder what affect adding a buch of technology in the R129 had on the longevity.

The R129 certainly has good DNA.

100 K + miles on a 1997 is a promicing figure.

Not many arround with that high mileage.
