What is the most fun you have had in your SL?

I just love dropping the top on a fall, winter or spring day when it is unusually warm and clear. Fleeting moments stolen from the clutches of winter .

I also love flooring it when going up a steep hill and just blowing the doors off of lesser vehicles on the road :v .

Longer drives through hill and twisty roads. To Whistler from Vancouver on the sea to sky higway. And to Toffino accross Vancouver Island. Both are great trips on a sunny day .

I find it hard to believe now that I even hesitated to buy a convertible and wondered for a while if the MB would be worth the extra money. NO doubt on eather point .

Bully for you.
Is it just me, or is this forum seriously running out of steam?

You have probably enjoyed the sence of acceleration in your SL from time to time. Do you concider youself to be a bully?

I have found that there is fewer and fewer new posts of any interest. And not much follow up on new topics.

I attempt to stimulate post / reply interest to encourage people to get into the R129 now that it is more affordable.

I regularily encourage people to share their experiences and freely share my own ... simply to have a bit of a buzz going about the great cars we own.

Judging by your responce you feel this is lame some how?

"Bully for you" means "good show", not being a bully. Surprised you didn't know that.

Anyhow, you pretty well set the scene. Put the top down, turn up the CD and gooooooooo

Do love that SL

I am very much a "live and let live" kind of person. I am glad you enjoy your car. I enjoy mine.
But, yes I do think you are bit lame, or as we would affectionately say over here in Blighty, you are a "bit of a ****".

For the sake of us remaining friends, I don't think you should.
Seriously though, no offence was intended.
I respect your right to post whatever Merc related thoughts you wish. I have no right to pass judgement and please accept my apology if I caused you any offence - just my dry British sense of humour...........

Accepted. I was thrown off by the slang. I guess I had a bad day as well. I do tend to look to the MB forum for levity.

About 16 years ago I did 135 mph + for the first time. At 10 PM on a straight deserted highway. I was driving a Jaguar XJS V12 I owned for a short period of time. The car rose an inch or so at 120 mph and felt lighter (usually that happens at 85 mph in a north american car) ... and the sound of V12 working at high revs. I'll never forget those sensations.

All I could think of is ... what happens if I blow a tire. A bit of a downer.

I used to follow the R129, SL55 and SLR forums as well. But I find the talk of trap speeds, R230 cars beeing "too common/dime a dozen" and nigelling over dealership service issues is wearing thin.

I tend now to focus on the R129 and R230 (OK I want a SL 600) forums. I do hope the R129 forum will grow to be a place where regular people can exchange views on enjoying a reasonably priced, great car.

Before we all have to be preoccupied with stories of how to fix our mid tech cars.

Very Nice!
I wasn't terribly worried, the car had a brand new set of Mich. Z rated tyres...
Considering some of the tyres I'd driven my healey at speed w/ this was nothing!

Most fun I had was driving down Highway 1 starting in Monterrey along the pacific coast line to San Louis Obispo. It was early morning during the week so not too much traffic. The weather was superb, had the top down, music up loud. You don't have to go too fast to serious enjoy that drive because the road is very twisty. Also, I drove the car through the Mohave desert, no police or traffic, and reached top speed. That was a blast.

Vettes consistently rank top in magazine road tests as being King of the Road. Excellent performance as a reasonable price.

Will you be going for high HP, manual transmission, convertible options?

Already have the Vert picked out (triple black and auto, yep an auto, I like to chill when I drive), I'll end up dropping some coin for more hp and aesthetics. Loved my Benz but it's just time for somethin' newer! :v
