Flip up doors?
Found this in google images:
Any idea where they had something done like that (doors)?![Cool](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)
What do you guys think? I like it, but im not so sure about them opening out so wide, parking wouldn't be too practical heh. Maybe it they went straight up. Opinions?
..and man did they wreck the front of that..

Kleemann makes doors like those...
You can read more about it here: http://www.kleemannusa.com
There's even a video which shows how it's done

Waste of time - just look at how long the doors take to open. Just what you need when it's pouring with rain and you want to get in. Oh, and how do you get out in a hurry if you need to? Add to that the extra weight and the effect it will have on performance. Madness is the word which comes to mind.

Oh wow, that does take long. I thought they would just open up manually with your hand and pop upwards. I would of seriously looked into it, if they didn't take that long, that is just ridiculous. Edit: Looks good when you use the speedup feature in windows media player. Bah, oh well. And could that guy in the video be any cheesier?

Garage sizes
Continuing with the previous thread I have been looking at houses recently and I have to say with the size of garages in new houses I am surprised how people manage to get out of cars which open normally! Why do they assume we all drive minis?

Ah it's all part of the UK Government conspiracy to get us to drive smaller cars. In the Home of the Brave and Land of the Free (did I get that right?) there are no such plans, but they do argue alot about whether to keep a feeding tube in or out...

Our second home has a single garage. I have had to stick carpet to the wall, and the car just about goes through the garage door with an inch or so each side. I cannot do this without my wife's assistance either in or out - and it's not because I'm overly cautious. When the SL500 is in the garage I cannot get out of the car without lowering all windows on the drivers side and climbing "over" the door. I'm not particularly big but my bum rubs the wall and my front, my car as I edge out of the garage. I'm told that this is a standard single uk garage.

With a convertible, the chassis and monocoque are already less stiffer than a conventional car. When you implement doors like this, as Sulu would say, "structural integrity is compromised"....

Safety compromised, as well as structural integrity?
What happens if you're in an accident, and the hydraulics that open the door are damaged? Can you get out quickly in case of a fire or to put out flares? What happens if you roll the car and it's upside down? Can you get out at all? I'm sure there are many scenarios to worry about with these scissor doors.

My friend has this done to his Civic Si and it was the sickest thing I saw on a car the show, along with smoke machines under his car and a fish tank as the center column in the back seat. It cost him $900 installed. 300 for parts and 600 for labor. he knew the guy at the shop and got a slight discount but still it runs around $1000-1250 installed, depending on where you go (ihgh detail clientele or low or mediocrity)..

My apologies if either links, are defective, at the time I was using them, they were in perfect running order. Hope I was of some assistance.
