SL #4 we have a winner!
I picked up my car this morning and its perfect...
I cant praise MB of Tampa enough.. they could have stuck me with a defective car or made me settle for a charcoal interior. Instead I got a fresh of the boat Sl500, that is perfect.
Ill post pics tonight...........

Here are some pics of my new Sl.. My ordeal was worth it.. I cant stop admiring my car! My girlfriend thinks I should wear a body condom, since I put the towels and rubber mats in.

Enjoy!
Nice pics enjoy your new ride. I would get rid of the towels and the rubber mats. I have the stone interior and it cleans real easy. Enjoy it, don't sweat it.

Congrats!!
I'm glad you stuck it out and finally got a perfect car. It seems crazy that you had to go through 4 to find one, but hey, whatever it takes! Congrats again!

I think it is when the competition makes something comparable from a looks, engine and electronic point of view.
If anyone ever does, heaven help MB.

My hope is that after more than 3 years of making the thing and their profits being hammered by all aspects of the quality "issue", MB are at long last on the way to getting the SL sorted out.
Seems to me most of the problems they've had with the SL have been quality control problems with assembly rather than manufacturing - nobody is complaining about the quality of the engines, no SL bodies are rotting, the paint seems as good as you can reasonably expect from a paint plant turning out 1800 cars a day.
The SL quality issues stem most from the actual process of turning thousands of adequate to good quality components - every one of which stands up to close scrutiny in isolation - into a reliable thoroughly QA'd car and doing it time after time, once every 8 minutes or so.
The problem with the SL has been the effect on quality of a double whammy - huge marketing pressure to ramp up production volume to meet demand and the learning curve of building what is probably the most complex production car in the world. If there's a more complex one, built in this volume, I cannot think of it.
As the pressure on volume eases, as they've refined the assembly process and as the dealers learn how to PDI the car properly, the end result is happier customers. I do think lorinserbenz should get a medal for sticking with Mercedes through all these cars.
That's why I'm not applying any pressure on my Aston Martin dealer to get me a car early. I'm quite happy to wait a couple of years and let other people suffer the pain of early ownership. That said, if he called me tomorrow to say "we need you to spec your car", I'd be there like a shot.

Yes I was to the point of looking at a different car but what else is there?
A Lexus, no thanks no glorified Camrys for me... Audi? Nice but no one knows what they are... BMW... ugly and they are getting cheper than MB (quality wise)... Infiniti (see Lexus).. Aston? Bentley? different price bracket and you had better be prepared for long waits if your car needs parts..
Yes MB's Quality Control sucks, I am proof of that.. but they still make the best looking cars ( in their class) /performing cars in there class. Just look at the SL65, its a super car you can drive EVERY day.. try using a Aston or a Ferrari as a daily driver..
I was highly annoyed getting three cars that were defective, but thats life...
I am VERY happy with my car....... FINALLY
