sl600 going to happen?

Hey guys

Are there any plans for an SL600?
Any idea when we might hear any info?

I am #6 on a list for an SL55 (18-24 month wait)
but thinking that it might be easier to get an SL600 if one is planned.

counting down the days lol

The car will be a Bi-Turbo V12 with the standard body shape. Like the previous 600, there are sure to be upgrades in the interior materials used and maybe phone standard. The HP rating is said to be over 500hp & diffintely a MONSTER!!!! Only time will truely tell the real story.

last issue of Mercedes Enthusiast stated that the new bi-turbo V12 for the C600/S600 and SL600 will have 476 HP.

That 476 bhp number sounds dubious - the same number that the SL55 was supposed to have?

Your right, from what MBUSA has told us the first SL55's were recalled to bump the HP to over 500. This is all because the new bi-turbo 600's.

So how is the performance of the SL600 going to compare with the SL55?

actually it was because the new E55 was faster 0-60 and was more aerodynamic than the SL55. how would someone who paid 80k for their SL55 feel if the guy in the 60k E55 was faster/turned sharper?

Interesting...according to this the 600 motor will have the same HP as the 55Kompressor and more torque!....I am presuming it will be heavier?...I looks as though the performance between the 600 and the 55 may be a wash...

so...which one would you rather have? the 600 or the 55?

Personally, I'd take either but would probably go for the 55 for the following reasons:

1) somewhat cheaper to buy
2) the 8 is cheaper to maintain than the 12

the 600 would have a bit more prestige and luxury, the 55 more sporting quality...those kinda cancel each other out in my opinion.

I wonder if I could get a 600 faster than a 55?????

I would have to opted for the 55, just because I am more into the sportiness of the AMG. The luxury feel will be in both cars, just the name "V12" stirs some deep-down feeling with a lot of people that must have the top of the line in whatever they purchase. Don't get me wrong, I would take either car if given to me; but if I am footing the payment I will take the 55!!! I have to say one thing to JFawwaz, I not sure where you get your cars, but if you can get the new E55k for $60K let me know where & I will get two for that price. I am thinking that the '04 E55K will be more in the neighborhood of $75-80k depending on if you got with Navi or the phone. IMHO, I thing the E55 is the best all around car that MBZ produces. It is very, very fast; not too big, but not too small & low profile enough that you can make some other performance cars owners look like fools at the "Red Light Race" That is my two cents worth, sorry about the lenght!!!

Theres info around here in the UK that says the S,CL (both I think) will get the 55 kompressor (500bhp, 700nm) (S55 AMG) and the 6.0 bi-turbo from the Maybach (S600), which will also produce 500bhp, but 800nm of torque - most torquey production engine ever ....

Remember 500 Din BHP isnt same as 500 USA type horse power

I assume the same engine will make it into any SL600 that arrives

Cheers

SL55 AMG
It's clear that these model revisions are far more than simply cosmetic and lift the performance of the CL into a completely different league.

Their V12 engine was overdue for a shot of steroids because it was less powerful than the previous generation engine. Looks like the two approaches - supercharging a V8 and the turbo V12 are going to produce comparable performance in the SL55 and CL600.

The SL55 is the same weight as the current CL600 (1955 kg = 4300 pounds). With that huge torque figure of 800Nm, up from 700 Nm, the SL600 may even be faster than the SL55 but I agree the character of the two cars will be different - no point in competing against yourself.

Don't forget too that this is before AMG have got their hands on it.

I'm breathless at the rate of progress. Question is, where is it all going to end?

here a picture to compare the old and new CL 55 AMG. the power output of the CL55 and the CL600 are almost identical but in a completely different way.
which will be better will show the time.

but to have 800nm torque from 1800rpm to 3500 (in the CL600)must be blast to drive

I wonder what all of this is going to do to resale values of existing CL55's and CL600's because there is such a difference in performance between old and new. I know the resale value of my 129 SL600 has fallen off a cliff.

Looks like the xx55 AMG and xx600 for each of the S, CL and SL cars are each being positioned with the same engine power and comparable performance but how that extra torque of the xx600 will differentiate the cars will be interesting to see, as will pricing.

Up to now, the xx600 cars have been 15% more expensive than the xx55 AMG; that puts the SL600 at about $130k compared to $113k for the SL55.

6 cars at the top of the tree....amazing.

But thats where they make the most money. Id imagine the cost of producing a SL55 and a new E class is almost identical (within a few $1000) , but the retail price is far far different

On its way back to Mercedes Benz UK headquarters - this has the benefit (apparently) that
(1) There are some superb technicians there
(2) MB Germany can remotely get at the car
(3) The parts store is there, so no waiting a day for parts that may not fix the problem
