I'm Moving From California To Arizona. What Registration Fees/licensing Fees Can I Expect To Pay For My '05 Sl600?

AZ registration

I believe AZ is 4% of the MSRP the first year, then 85% of the previous year's amount for each following year. There is a minimum amount, but I can't remember what it is.

I guess I should not complain about $98.

it seems like alot of us that have several vehicles are paying $4000 to $6000+ a year to register all of our cars.. i've always wondered.. why not just not register and have a dealer plate on the back of our cars? most cops will think it's a new car if it's a new body style.. and from what i've seen.. the mentality is that cops don't want to mess with someone in a $100k car, as they will most likely hire a lawyer, and have to show up to court, and make a big deal out of a non-traffic violation that will probably be thrown out if there is valid cause..

i wouldn't suggest this if you had an 85 corolla, but from my experience and talks with cops... they seem to leave high end cars alone that are obeying the traffic laws, as they know who pays their taxes which equates to what pays their paycheck, and that people with these high end cars, usually don't "intend" to do anything they aren't supposed to, to their vehicle..

i haven't had a plate on my porsche in 2 years on the front or rear (instead have the paper dealer plate) and have NEVER been pulled over once.. (even though it has been registered)

i mean, it's a $200 ticket.. doesn't affect your insurance or traffic record.. let's say worst case scenario.. and if one gets pulled over 2 times a year, that's $400 vs $6000.. over 10 years.. that's $55,000 saved... could buy a nice new slk55 for that :>

and it makes your car look new and not subsceptible to photo radar anyone debated on doing this, done this, or am I alone?

The drive will give wifey and me an opportunity to get the SL out on the open road. Now it just sits in the garage.

Good for you, you're a good son! I have an elderly Father and would like to do something similar for him some day.

I agree with you about the SL (or any other car that's designed to be driven) get her (SL) out of the garage and drive her as often and as briskly as possible.

They will givie you ticket that requires you to document that the car has been registered and has all its plates in place...a correction ticket, usually cheap, but you will have to show the court that the plates are on, so it won't work more than once in California or Minnesota (the latter state inchich I was once pulled over for not having a front plate on...it had been stolen, or fallen off, and I hadn't noticed.)

Obviously this has worked for you on your Porsche but so far you've just been lucky. The first time you're stopped they'll enter your VIN and find out the car is registered with plates and tihnk it's been stolen and turn a simple stop into a nightmare. Also, you are required to have the temp registration taped inside the window for viewing from the outside...it has the purchase date and is only valid for 30 or 60 days (?). I bet there's some law about "avoiding vehicle identification" or some other weird wording that they could apply to you and make it a felony or moving violation as well. But you've done it for two years and the gamble doesn't seem to bother you. Also, the savings by not registering it at all would be nullified if you are caught because you end up paying back registration fees plus penalties unless you can prove the car was non operational during that time.

Not to say I haven't been pulled over.. i've actually been pulled over 5 times, without plates on any my vehicles (front or rear) and not once have I had a problem :> just have to know what to say

My main concern is, if the vehicle isn't registered, can they tow it and force me to register it before getting it out of the tow yard? Have been wondering about that... prolly should consult a lawyer.. have to be a few lawyers here? :>

1988 560SL (sold); 2001 E430 (sold); 2004 SL500; 2009 CL550
here in GA the tag tax is ad valorem - and value is also based upon the county you live in.

the first year my car tag $1800; this year my car are $1600...so yeah Tigger...be quite happy. I know FL and TX are very cheap - based upon the weight class of the car.

As they say...."the proof is in the pudding"...or something like that. The only problem I can see is if everyone starts doing this the police will get wise. But, as an added benefit it forces you to buy the new generation body style when yours is upgraded
