Talking Finally...got an SL600 today!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just took delivery of a brand new 2005 SL600 from Mercedes-Benz Manhattan (only US dealer owned by DCX). It is the base model: Brilliant Silver paint/Ash Exclusive leather. MSRP:$130,820...I paid $98,500+tax/tags. The only option I wish it had was KeylessGo but I think I can live without that annoying beeping + the key is the same.

This is by far the sickest car I have ever driven in my life. The V12 twin turbo pulls so hard yet smoooooooth it is indescribable (word?). I got an instant erection on the drive home from the dealership, no I'm serious. I was so disappointed with my CLK55 yet so impressed with the SL600...I cannot understand how anyone after driving this monster would still want the 5439cc engine instead of this one (the same engine that is in the MayBach 57/62 I might add) or any other car for that matter. I know it doesn't handle as well as others, but 100% of my driving is on streets & highways NOT racetracks!!! This thing is the king of the highway.

Mods to come:
AMG body kit
AMG taillights
AMG quad exhaust (maybe)
RENNTech upgrade (maybe)

The wheels will be staying. That is the reason I did not want the Sport Package because they change the wheels. I like my wheels...they are V12 specific! I will probably head down to Englishtown in the Spring and try some runs with this monster . Thank you to everyone on this board who helped me with this decision...I researched 3+ years of old posts, almost got the SL55.

I thank God every day that I am fortunate enough to drive this beast. I mean this car has everything a single 30 year old male could want: 5513cc V12, 550hp, not one BUT two turbos!, retractable hardtop, leather eveywhere, I mean everywhere!!! I can't believe that this car is legal. This Horsepower war is amazing, I can't wait until I pull up next to an E60 M5 or a Charger SRT-8. I hope I have a good experience with MB throughout ownership & I pray the Lord has given me a good vehicle. Even so, my warranty is good until the end of this decade...who knows what will be out then as a 2010 model.

It snowed alot here today in Jersey but I will get pics up as soon as possible. I know I hate reading about new cars without seeing pics. I look forward to chatting with all of you...the R230 forum rocks!

Congrats! I advised a friend to do the same and stay with the non sports rims (V12 specific) and add a few AMG touches. Many happy and healthy miles ahead.

Congrats and I understand your excitement. I felt that way when I first got my E55. I am planning on a new SL in a couple of years and I am leaning toward the 600, but the 030 package for the AMG is making the decision more difficult. Glad to hear you made yours successfully.

RennTechV12, does the chip change comfort mode at all? Is it true you lose the gear number in manual mode?

Right now all comfort mode does is start you off in second gear.
Trust me, get the RENNtech ECU from neal@euroteckmotorsports.com
I don't think I've ever heard a single complaint about RENNtech ECU's.

Make that renntech maybe into a for sure. After my dad got the upgrade, the car is out of this world. Makes the stock Sl600 seem weak

Congratulations on your SL600. I am sure you will have many days of continued pure enjoyment.

FYI, the HP in the SL600 is 493, not 550. It however can be substantially increased with the RennTech ECU's.

Again, many congratulations.

Congrats on your SL600! I'm curious what was your deciding factor to go with the SL600 over the SL55?

Thanks

.
The engine in the Maybach 57/62 officially puts out 543hp/664lbs/ft of torque. These engines are identical therefore the SL600 puts out close to 550hp. Of course, MB could never officially state that because no one would ever buy an SL55 . Dyno a stock SL600 and you will be surprised.

I read these forums every day & I shop around. There was no way I was getting an 04 w/ miles because of the crappy COMMAND.

MBWorld + eBaymotors + cars.com + Autotrader + KBB + bothering various dealerships + above average negotiation skills = smoking deal

I got my CLK55 brand new 8 months ago for 21K below MSRP. Five years ago all these cars were selling for MSRP & higher!

I was scared about the following cars being released:

2006 M5 & M6
2006 Corvette Z06
2007 Shelby GT500

At least now I know I can compete, the above cars will eat the SL55 for lunch.

The sl600 V12 most likely is a little de-tuned compared to the maybach...or no one would get a 55...also That is the best deal on a sl600 I've ever seen new...

If you didn't get the AMG package (bumpers, side-skirts) it seems like a shame to spend $$$ on an AMG kit when for around the same price(since you are such a good negotiator) a brabus, lorinser, etc kit could be attained which would take the looks of your 600 to another level IMO.

MB Manhattan was excellent. If you are a serious buyer they will deal. They are the only corporate owned dealer in the states. I think that is why they could go so low, no floor plan & they aren't privately owned. Helms Bros. had a similar vehicle (Blk/Blk) but stopped at 104K. Ray Catena (horrible sales team BTW) has a silver/black; same MSRP and won't go below 110K...ARE THEY KIDDING ME OR WHAT...what a bunch of losers!!!
