a common problem with the R230. It's an 05 SL500 with 4K miles. Twice this week when the car was started the CD appears to be playing by looking at the display but no sound. Rebooting the car fixes the problem. The dealer claims to never heard of this problem and I don't believe him.

I would have them check to see if you have the latest software for the command unit.

My 05 had some minor issues, they eventually replaced the commnand unit and no problems again.

I've had this happen 2 or 3 times upon starting up. Whether it's CD, radio, DVD or whatever. Thought I'd hit the mute button! Locked the car up and it worked OK after unlocking. Must be about a year ago since the last time so maybe the glitch has gone. Couldn't be bothered doing anything about it at the time.

i have had this happen twice in the 9 months that i have had my 05 SL 600; both the radio and CD don't have any audio; also the NAV does not have any sound. After re booting a few minutes later, it's fine. Don't know what to make of it, but it has not happened for a few months now (keeping my fingers crossed!!). probably one of mercedes weird quirks...

Mine has done the same thing four or five times..
(05 with 5K)
If I turn the car off and wait a minute it comes back on.

Gotta love that MB quality!

I think that has more to do with the quality of the Command unit, not MB.

I also think alot of the electrical problems are due to the vendor's equipment, but MB gets the blame.

Might be true but since we buy the car from MB it doesn't matter to me who they bought the equipment from. If its sub-par stuff, they shouldn't be buying it. There in lies the problem. Trying to save a buck.

Had similar but only on the CD, i just leave it for a min. and it starts again.
