Mercedes Phone Options for the 2003 Mercedes SL500

I just bought a 2003 SL500 and would like to undestand what the best
phone options are ( trading up from a C32 AMG with full voice activation and
hands-free V60s phone ).

I enjoy my current system but like the idea of using other phones like
the Motorola E815. I don't require bluetooth but would have no problem
using it if it is a better sounding solution.

I searched the forums but don't see much recent discussion on this so
hoping to get the most up to date information.

Thanks in advance.

Do you currently have the v60p phone working in your SL500?

Mercedes is not planning to upgrade the phone systems in the 2003 and 2004 SLs. So the only way that I know of having a e815 to work in your car is getting a Agros bluetooth system in it. Argos just replaces the Mercedes PSE.

I did test the Verizon e815 and Cingular MPx 220 in my SL with the Argos system, and they work great. But I installed the Argos system in my SLK 320.

Go here for more information on the Argos system.

Thanks for your response.

I have the V60s working on my C32 and would no problem using
it in my SL500 - do you know if the same cradle can be used?

Are there better non-bluetooth solutions out there?

Did you say you have a V60s? If you renew your contrack, you may not be able to use the V60s. V60s is not supported in my area. The Verizon V60p is supported in my area.

Mikbox has an excellent solution that will allow most Motorola phones to work in the SL500. You would also have to get a new cradle/hand-up cup to replace the Mercedes phone cradle.

Thanks again!

One last question, can I use the cradle that is in my 2003 C32 and that
works with my V60s phone in my 2003 SL500?

According to this web site http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsit..._bulletins.htm the 2003 C and 2003 SL uses the same cradle. If you never had the Merdedes phone/kit installed in your SL, you will have difficulties in getting the correct phone installation/completion kit for your SL.

Just contact Mik at http://www.mikbox.com to verify if his equipment will work with the Mercedes V60 cradle. Mik's phone solution will allow non-Mercedes brand phones to work in Mercedes cars.

How does the cost and quality of the above compare with the MB solution?
I don't have any issues continuing to use the V60s.

Thanks again for all of your help :-)

The Mercedes phone solution only allows you to use Mercedes phones. The mixbox solution connects to the Mercedes PSE and allows you to use non-Mercedes phones. There is no difference in quality because you are using the Mercedes phone equipment if you get the mikbox solution. The mixbox solution may be about $300.

Before you even attempt to install the phone in the SL500, please verify with your dealer that he can get all the equipment/kit to install your phone. My friend could not get a Mercedes V60p phone in his 2004 SL500, because MBUSA requested all D2B phone kits/phones from the dealers about a month ago. He has been on the waiting list for his phone/VRM/installation kit for about a month. Steve at http://www.mbenznl.com/ may be able to get you the stuff to install your phone.

Your existing equipment in C32 (PSE, V60s and Cradle + voice module) should work in 03 SL500. Just swap it out. If you have the stealer do the work, it would cost you about the same as Mikbox solution.

Thanks. Including the "voice recognition"?

It sounds like the Mikbox is a very good solution but having a translater
in the middle of anything is just one more thing to go wrong..

I have removed the pse from the C32 and now the radio doesn't
work. I have an fiber optic cable that is unterminated that was
plugging into the pse so I am assuming the network requires that
cable to be terminated somewhere - does any one know where?

P.S. There doesn't seem to be any obvious place...

P.S.S. Is there any reason why my SL500 would not already have a PSE?
I plan on having the dealer install this so I don't to tear stuff up to look
for it...

Does anyone have mercedes V60g?

Do you guys know if the mercedes V60g will work in a 2003 sl500?
I currently have a mercedes V60 phone system in my car, but that phone is cdma and will only work with verizon. I use cingular service that needs GSM. Do you guys know if I can just buy the V60g phone, put in my sim card, and plug it into my existing cradle?

Will this be compatible with the command?
Has anyone done this?

Thanks in advance!

You will have to remove the fiber patch cable and reconnect the loop. The PSE is optional on the SL500.

Thanks.

I finally got it all sorted out. I had my dealer install the PSE and
cradle from my C32. The C32 needs to have a jumper removed from
the left trunk fuse panel and then be re-programmed so that the PSE
is out of the ring. It using something like a Token Ring Network.

For some reason, the V60s SQ on the SL500 is much better than it was
on the C32! Several people I have talked to have commented that the
sound is much better without me even mentioning that I have switched
cars...

Thanks again!
