Occasional BRAKE NOISE!

Curious if anyone has any ideas on why I occasionally hear some squeeling coming from the breaks sometimes. I can hear it one day and then not for a while, any ideas?

Certain MB's are having issues with the brakes and squealing (my CLK500 included) even the AMG cars. There is a DTB addressing the issue but it is for the retaining clips and I think it may be for a different noise than what you, I and many others are hearing. I've had MB change my front rotors and pads twice with limited success; now only my psngr. side front brake is squealing and the D/S is quiet. It's very embarassing when your shiny late model MB pulls up to the stop light and it's the only car squealing . Your dealer will change out your pads and rotors once in the first 12,000 miles but then you're on your own unless they feel like being extra generous down the road. Mine squeal only under light braking pressure and under 40 mph mostly @ about 20mph, the weird thing is that's always been the criteria for the squeal even when the original pads and rotors were on. The squeal first started at about 1600 miles when the car was brand new, then they changed out the pads and rotors, it went away until about 12,000 and I was fortunate to get the pads and rotors changed again; now as I mentioned above only the psngr. side squeals. I've been so unbelievably busy, but once things slow down enough I'll be back at the dealer as I hate the squealing.

actually, i visited my (utterly useless) mb dealer yesterday with the same problem: that sometimes my brakes are squeeling when braking from low speeds. his immediate diagnosis was that it was caused because of the dirt inside the little holes on the brake discs (since i changed my pads 1 month ago). after having waited for 2 hours for the "cleaning operation" i took my car to the street and sure as f**k, at the first traffic light, the same thing . what i found out later in the day from my colleague, was that actually this noise is caused by the frequency of vibration between the pad and the brake disc-because many times the disc is not completely straight. the way to rectify the situation is to put a carbon-based cream on the back side of the brakepad. haven't tried it yet but i will when i get some free time. hope that helps.

Forgot to mention, they did try the anti-squeal paste but to no avail...

Noticed

I noticed that after I wash the car, I don't hear the brake noise. Is it possible that after riding the car for days and the accumulation of brake dust etc.. causes the squeel??

It's possible...but the brake squeal is a well known issue within MB. Some cars, even of the exact same model don't squeal while others do. I've tried all the tricks, from brake bedding to thoroughly cleaning out the brakes. As the post above mentioned even when the dealer cleaned out the brake dust the noise came back. Hopefully your car will remain silent.

Brake Noise

I don't know if this helped or not, but I started using the Mercedes Wheel Care product which is a spray on that helps clean the brake dust of the rims. I used that a couple of times and since then, I am not hearing anymore noise from the brakes. For the small money it costs, I would suggest trying it, something happened for mine to stop that loud squeeling noise when stopping.

I would be curious to hear the feedback from anyone who tries it.

THankfully, noisy brakes is a problem that has not yet come up.

I've been

Ya, I've been noticing this lately... Seems to happen when I am lightly breaking... If I apply more pressure the squeeling stops.

I don't drive that car much, maybe it's a build up of dust or something... not sure...
