my SL 500 w/o muffler and sound clip.

I just took of my muffler and having a glass pipe installed. Here are some pic. and a sound clip with the mufflers off.

Its sounds awesomely great. To describe it, the mechanic and I says it sounds like a 1991 Mustang 5.0

you might have to give the video sometime to download 10 megs.

sounds like a 1991 ford (shutter) mustang 5.0? is that supposed to be a compliment?

sounds nice and all.. but it just doesn't sound right for a $100k mercedes... a mercedes isn't supposed to sound like a muscle car.. just doesn't seem right..

Your right Seattle, I DO like the sound of the Mustang but it was not right for our SL's.

We decided to add in a Glass pack (A resonator). I wanted to take some of the raspiness sound of the egine and quite it down a bit.

We took the roar sound down about 30%. So now instead of sounding like a roar is sounds more like a deep sounding growl.

I think is sounds soooooo sweet. I love it .

Well jude for your self.

Below are sound clips one in the early morning and one later that day.
Give it some time to load it's about 15megs each.

Below are the photos of the glass pack behind the new tips.

These were the only quad tips that i could find to fit with out cutting out the bumper.

I am not too please with the tips but the shop said they can replace it with what i want once i find it.

Hi Overclocked, thanks agian about the sig.

Tips look perfect, and the fact that they went on without bumper modifications makes them even better. Love the sound, nice work.

Yes performace gains

Hi Vantage, yes there was defiantly a perfoemance gain. Not sure how much but i can really feel it in the Top end.

When i stepped on the gas it actually startled me a bit because it reponded alot quicker then before and my tires peeled a bit.

I was not expecting this, and i was stepping on the gas as i usually do to accelerate.

So i grauntee you will feel a performance gain, it makes since i quess because now it is less restrictive with the muffler gone and just a straight through glass pipe.

Thanks HGL600 for the compliments, i kinda wanted a bigger tip that was more a "squash look" then a round look. but this will do for now until i get bored and find a different tip.
