Satellite Radio Antenna - Yuk

I know this subject has appeared in previous posts, but allow me to vent.
In my ongoing search for that perfect SL to buy, I've been both amazed and disappointed at the number of used SLs on the market that have been mutilated by having a satellite radio antenna (mega wart) mounted in the middle of trunk lid. IMHO it's just plain butt ugly and a definite deal buster for me.

The best place to fit the antenna - hood air vent area - it will look like a Windshield Washer Nozzle - there are some pics regarding this installation somewhere on the forum ...

Chris,
I agree with you about placing the antenna in the hood vent area. But certainly not in the middle of the trunk lid. Of course it could be worse, such as a CB radio whip antenna along side it.

I did some research - the best mount so far - - https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ELLITE+ANTENNA

Also i found one more idea - to have the antenna mounted under the hard boot - but i don't understand how it works !!!!

IMHO - Not a Problem

After reading this forum before purchasing my car I thought that the antenna would bother me but after I purchased the car I got used to it and it didn't end up to be a problem. I bought a new 2006 where the Sirius radio was a no cost option and it made me nervous to not get it installed at the factory/VPC because I was afraid it might not be possible to hook it up aftermarket. I know people have done it in model years before 2006 but I thought I had read somewhere that 2006 was different. Has anyone had an aftermarket Sirius antenna added on a 2006 yet?

Ignore the pink arrow. You can place the antenna in the driver’s side vent. I use a metal plate and attached the plate to the bottom of the vent with silicon. The antenna has a big magnet on the bottom and the magnet will stick to the place.

The vent on the passenger's side does not have a bottom vent cover. You will not see tie wraps doing my way.

Tigger,
I'd say you've achieved the ideal solution. Innovation often leads to perfection.

To All,
Is there an establised avenue/method for feeding back these great ideas and solutions to M-BZ? I'd like to think they would welcome such improvements.

I tried to have my dealer install in the vent and they wouldn't consider it. They didn't want to deal with possible peformance issuses from the antena being in a "semi-hidden" location etc. Soon after that I figured out how to burn on to the dvd's and haven't messed with the Sat. since. Now that I am getting used to seeing the one on the trunk it doesn't bother me as much but I still can't believe its near 1k to have done at the dealer.
