August Car & Driver
They evaluate six high end convertibles. Numero uno by a wide margin is the
SL550. They raved about the car. Number two is the Porsche Carerra, and number three is the Jaguar. Kudos to all owners.

I almost had a heart attack from those two car magazines rating the SL550 so high. I think the sky is falling. I was shocked to see that the Honda or the BMW was not rated higher.
The SL550 must be geat because those car magazines would have found some excuss to rate Mercedes lower.

Also check out the August issue of Motor Trend, the S600 beat the Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

You said magazines here as in plural, was there another comparo with the SL550 besides the Car and Driver one?

Or it could mean Mercedes bumped up there advertising dollars to the mag lately. Its great when a comparo works out in your favor but most of them seem to end with questionable results.

I see here on their Vehicle Chart that the SL550 has virtually perfect front/rear weight distribution: 50.2/49.8 EXCELLENT!
They weigh each corner with a certified scale, so I dont' have any argument with their numbers.
Since an SL600 has the same 5.5L displacement with just a few more pistons and a couple of turbos with a little intercooler plumbing, its weight distribution is probably very close to perfect also.
Does anybody have the figure for an SL600?
