single push to open top module
Have any of you guys ordered this from www.mods4cars.com.
I am ordering this and wanted some feedback. Thanks
INFO BELOW>>>
Operating the roof control while driving at slow speeds (max. 50km/h / 30mph)
Safe speed control mechanism automatically locks the roof against unintended operation at higher speeds.
A short push of the "open" button opens up the roof completely.
A short push of the "close" button closes the roof completely.
Removing the ignition key immediately stops the one-touch operation.
Pushing either button while the top is moving stops operation immediately.
Operating the roof using the original key remote
3 short taps on the "open" button on the key opens the top completely.
3 short taps on the "close" button on the key closes the top completely.
Inserting the key into the ignition lock immediately stops the one-touch operation.
Tapping the "open" button 3 times when the top is already open will open all windows

I saw one of those in a UK Benz magazine last week and was wondering about it. The price was alot more though. I am just worried it might screw something up. The convertible top electrics are NOT cheap I am sure.

Try eBay... I purchased one a few weeks ago for $200, including shipping. Not the same brand, but the same exact features and installation requirements. Product name is Vario Roof Control Module by Luxury Car Tuning.
Haven't had a chance to install mine yet, but product size, installation instructions and operation appear identical. Only difference seems to be that the one I have has 2 db-9 connectors (one on either end), whereas the one mentioned here has a single db-25 connector.
If you do a search, others here have ordered the same one. That's where I got my original info...
Hope this helps...

Itzkirb, it's a "plug-n-play", so no modifications are necessary other than tapping into the power wire at the install location (wire tap provided). Just remove a couple of panels to gain access. The module just "daisy-chains" between an existing connector.
Follow the link in the original post for the "illustrated" installation instructions. Both modules install identically...
Although these modules allow movement "on-the-go", the one I have allows activation of up to 39 mph (vs. 30 - not that it makes any difference).
Curiously, when deactivated (simple 1-button process), these modules are suppose to be undetectable. Great when servicing vehicle at dealership.

WOW! The www.mods4cars.com top thingy looks super easy to install. I like the feature of opening the top with the key, so you could stand out side the car and open/close the top.
It would be nice to get out of the car with the top down, hit the close button on your key... and walk away as the top is closing.
This is a neat product.
I bet this would void factory warranty though...

Interesting....that would be a pretty cool feature to have. Keep us posted on the installation and what problems if any you ran into. I may be interested in getting one for my car as well.

I talked to some very knowledgable Benz people today and the roof is not something you want to be opening at 20 MPH. That roof is heavy. I think you all know what a new roof costs too....$$$.
That being said, it might be a good deal if you just wanted to use the one touch thing. I just would be afraid that something unrelated would happen to my top (there have been several posts here about people who couldn't get their tops to open or close), and I would have no doubt Benz would not cover it if they saw this module installed.

There has been a similar discussion 3 months ago - the thread was 'One Touch VarioRoof Module' https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ghlight=module
The link for the product was http://shop.piecha.com/catalog/produ...products_id=61
Which product would you choose?

I bought the Piecha model for my 2006 SL600. I installed it in about an hour. The install is easy. The hard part is holding the carpet back and getting the cover for the cable holder out of your way. Another pair of hands would really help as I had to keep pushing the cover back with my right hand while trying to make connections. Once installed everything worked perfectly. I can get out of the car, press lock 3 times on the remote and the roof and windows go up. I wouldn't try opening or closing the top much above a walking speed. Electrically it it very easy to install, the problem is getting everything out of the way to do it.

How do you like it? Is it worth the money you paid? Also how much was it?

I have looked on ebay and so far I could only find the mods4cars module and not the one you had purchased. Can you tell me the key words to use or may be a contact to the seller?
Thanks!

Update
johnny5 = I love it. and i really do think it is worth the money. There are times when i am driving and see for instance a small dust strom ahahed, or landscapers blowing leaves or when it is about to rain. instaed of pulling over or just keeping on going and dealing with it i can get the top up in about 16 seconds while driving under 40mph.
The best function i think is when i park and push the remote as i walk away and the roof closes it self. instead of having to sit in the car and wait for it to go up and then exit.
I exchanged my model for the newer one that just came out. go here for more details. http://l-c-t.com/
Spanky = they only had 2 units left when i ordered. so they might of ran out.
the key word i used was "vario roof"
Mr. Jackson= yes the chirp function works as advertized. not sure about power consumption.

I bought one of these but its sitting in my desk in my office because I havent found the nerve or the detailed instructions to install it.
I've seen the SLK instructions on another forum, but I havent seen anything yet for the SL.
Does anyone have any resources for installation?
