Kleemann ECU Upgrade SL500

Has anyone had any experienace with the Kleeman ECU upgrade for the SL500? They claim a 30bhp and 36ft torque increase for $1,800. Thoughts?

The guy from local Kleemann shop told me that only ECU upgrade is not worth it, unless it is accompanied by free flow exhausts, air-box, etc...

Anyhow, if I was convinced about the HP gain and only just wanted an ECU upgrade, I'd choose Powerchip (Evosport).. Hp/price ratio...

Do you have any of the specs on the Powerchip?

I found the info on the powerchip online at

https://www.powerchipgroup.com/datas...13/Mer0127.pdf

Thanks. Have you looked into this upgrade before? What were your thoughts?

The local Kleeman dealer here said they have dyno'd the airbox and found no appreciable difference past the ECU upgrade. This is through an Atlanta MB dealership.

As per Powerchip Co., the octanes play substantial role in the HP gain. I fill my gas tank with 100-octane fuel nominal (98 for real) and with the Gold-98 upgrade one gains 8.9% (takes you from 306 hp to 333 hp).

When I first posted my thoughts in the forum, most of the people said that it's not really worth the $$ / hassle... However, if the 'pulling' difference (before/after) was noticeable, I guess I would do it..

You can check my initial thoughts here:

those gains are pretty hard to believe for a N/A engine. do they have a dyno chart and what fuel they used? race fuel? here in ca, 91 is highest we can get.

This could be just me but paying like $1500 or even higher is kind of hard to pay for just a ECU chip. If it was a dramatic difference in power I would be all over it but thats just me.

They had the dyno work on the website. They show 30 bhp and 36ft.lb.of torque increases. This is for $990. While I like the $33 per hp increase, it does seem to good to be true. That is why I am looking for someone who has made the mod with this chip.

I had it done in my car with powerchip. Since they are in Los Angeles, I took my car to them. In California only 91 octane, so they did not recommended the gold, unless I’m willing to drive around looking for a gas station with 93 plus. (Very hard to find). The response in my car is a lot better than before.

I have RennTech ECU and TCU mods. Unbelievable and dyno results consistently prove on many RennTech moded cars.

On behalf of Renntech, i want to thank you for purchasing our upgrades.

On another note, Amgme has recently upgraded his ecu on his SL550. You can ask him for his feedback.

For Norcal clients, we can program your ECU for a weekend for a test run before actually purchasing the upgrades. However, we will hold your credit card and sign a paperwork agreeing to pay if you decide to keep the upgrade.

About how much HP as well as Torque did you get from just the chip?? Im guessing you have done more than just ecu mods so getting accurate numbers will kind of be hard to distinguish which one helped with increase???

Okay so Im assuming if you want to see noticable gains you will have to go with the package deal and not just an ecu upgrade???
