Purchase price for a SL600?
I am interested in a 2005 SL600. I took one for a ride two days ago, and was very impressed. The car has no options, and has a little less than 10,000 miles. The car is at Luxury Motors Ohare (in Ill.). They are asking $79,895. Out of curiosity, where else can you shop for a vehicle like this in the Chicagoland area? Luxury Motors seems to have very competitive pricing, and a big selection. Are they the best show in town? Too bad I couldn't find one at a good price from a private seller (in Ill.), and save the sales tax. Thank you for your time, Rodbuster.

In Ill. you pay no sales tax on a purchase from a private party in state. You pay a small tax based on year only to the state. On a large purchase, it saves you several dollars. If you buy a used car from a dealer, you get hit with at least 6.25% or more (depending on which county sale occurred in).

As a pricing point of reference, I just purchased an 05' SL600 for $79,000. It included the following:
1) 11,000 miles - like new condition
2) Full service history
3) Mercedes 7 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty
4) Black interior/exterior
5) AMG sport package
6) Keyless Go
7) Luggage (behind the seats)
I've since added 19" AMG SL65 wheels. I think that I will soon round things out with the Renntech upgrade.

The AMG Sport Package is a $5300 option. It includes 18" turbine style 5 hole alloy wheels (I upgraded mine to 19" SL65 wheels) and AMG sculpted lower body work (like the SL55 or SL65).

80k for a "naked" SL600 is definitely not a good price...someone on the board actually bought a pretty well equiped 05 SL600 new (before the 06s came out) for $99k. So being that its now 2 MY old you should be able to get it for 70s.
