Thanks for all your help Pleubner. I am hitting some major walls trying to get these companies to help me out with products. This may be a dead-end street for me and using the SL as the feature vehicle for this build. I have a few other possibilities, but really hope I can stick with the SL. I will post updates.

This is the SL and the same audio system LINK
This is a 65 with 2 8" woofers , and a set of components up front with DVD and the factory unit LINK

Well guys, it's been a long time. Now, the time has come. Car Wars is now airing on ESPN2 and yes we did the SL65 AMG! I really wish we had just another week or 2 with the project but none-the-less.. it came out awesome. The show is now airing Saturday mornings at 10:00 and 10:30.

Wow, a lot of cool mods and advise. I just hope that you keep most of the distinct lines that the SL 500 has. The SLR mods are corny and makes it seem like one is trying to make the car something it is not. The SL is NOT an exotic, trying to make it look like the SLR would make one look like a poser. Sort like trying to make a nissan sentra look like a BMW.

We kept all the lines the same. We custom made a cowl scoop out of aluminum in the factory hood and shaved the door handles and antennae. Of course a complete show paint job and a ton of other upgrades (had to do LSD lambo doors as per my new nick-name), but most definately went with the already awesome look and feel of an SL 65 AMG. It's one pretty bad-*** ride!

I have to wait on the pics until the final show airs in late April. However, if you watch the show on ESPN2 the opening of each show has a very quick little clip of each shop. Mine is of one of my guys paddleing another guy like in Dazed and Confused. If you look behind them you see the SL doing a little dance while we computer tuned the suspension. It shows the car with the paint and body work done.

I guess I am confused. The OP states early on that he is customizing a SL500 and then at the end there are all kinds of references to SL65? Unless this car started out as a 65, it should not be badged as such. To do so would hurt your business (as only those with the cash to afford these types of projects would be more than aware of the difference. You're SL65 market is not a group of high school kids slapping stickers on the windows and claiming an extra 5HP, LOL). If the OP really did change cars part the way through the process, then I commend them for the significant investment and look forward to seeing the show. Do you have airing times?

The air times are Saturday mornings from 10:00am-11:00am on ESPN2 here in NY. I suppose you should check your local listings for the times by you.
