The extra mark up is too high in my opinion for a de-tuned gallardo....very cool looking though. Personally Id rather have a Maserati Gran Turismo....those are few and far between as well.

CY...I just saw one live last week at my local mall. It is a stunner in person. The R8 looks better in person and especially in motion (I saw one in San Francisco @ night and it was mean look), but you are right about the ridiculous markups...patience is a virtue.

If the R8 could be had for retail I would consider it....but for the money some dealers are after you could buy a Gallardo or F-car....I saw the Gran Turismo yesterday in the flesh and it has serious road presence....too much mark up on those as well though.

Your in Cali...I can only imagine how much more the markup is over on your coast. What are they looking for the GT? @ MSRP it is within my target price range, but if they go another 10 to 20K they can kiss my ****.

i've been assuming that they'd be at least $50k over sticker out here. i think they only made around 300 of them for the first model year. maybe late next year i can find closer to sticker.

Steel Grey 2012 ML350 is wife's
Could just buy a Mazda Speed6 and have fun fun fun? Top Gear just rated it as a "why would you buy anything else" (afa a 4 seater goes)? AWD, turbocharged, 270hp, superb cornering and control and $25 grand US.

The R8 looks cool and performs well, but for the money, I would rather have a Lambo.

2005 SL55
My buddy has an R8 and we took it for a road trip so I got a chance to drive it. It is light and nimble whereas my SL55 is a heavy beast in comparison. It does draw a crowd from it's looks. What I noticed most was how driver friendly it is. It is very very comfortable to drive long distances. The only knock I have against it is that oil changes suck. You need to bring it into Audi because it's a whole process to just change the friggin oil. Also, I'm a big fan of sun roofs and the R8 does not have this. I hear a Spyder version is coming out with removable top. Overall I like my SL55 as an everyday car. The R8 is stunning and performs very well but I agree with the others that it is not worth the crazy markup.

For the money---> Fcar over any Audi product...just look at how similiar the interior of an A4 versus Lambo/R8 share like.

A friend of mine saw a couple R8's on the road over summer being test driven up and down the highway by Audi techs and after seeing one in person...I must say if it weren't for the markup it'd be a great buy

R8 Pics

I have a deposit on an R8 now, but it looks like it is going to be awhile before I will actually get it. I drove it on the track down in Miami and it was unbelievable. I am 6'2 and fit well in the car. You can drive this car everyday, unlike a lambo...

I have posted some of my pics at r8.monkey-run.com

I was at the dealer over the weekend picking up the new S5 for a new company car, and they had an R8 for sale, they were asking $189k for it which includes a $50k mark up... not worth it at all in my opinion.

yeah the markups are crazy on new cars.......I remember back in the spring of 2002 when the R230 SL500 just came out and the one i bought was one of only 2 in the state of MA and the sticker price was 125k and I got it for 119k.....looking back now I could have gotten the AMG for that price...but that time I didnt even know of the SL55........and also its always good to wait a year for the price to drop and for the car maker to get the kinks out.....

Only seen one at Coffee and Cars so far. Looks great on the inside too.
It does attract a crowd. But as the R230 has taught us. Avoid the first model year if you can. And paying a "Mark-Up" is just insanity unless your just bleeding cash and need that instant gratification rush. I wonder how the R8
wil do vs. the SL55 ?

The best thing about it is that no one really has one...even here in LA they are very uncommon. Once the price gets normal they wont be as hot IMO.

Again, Id take the New Maserati over it. Maybe even a M6.

yeah I agree they will become more common because isnt the sticker price like 110k-120k???(when the markup comes down) and thats less money than a SL55,SL600,Bentley,Porshce turbo etc so I think they will become like a carrera you will see them eveywhere because thats a great price for a everyday car with exotic looks etc and people will go for it...........
