Are you guys in love with a convertible that much that you need one from now on?

I like the convertible....however, there isn't much out after this if I want to stay the same route.

convertibles

I've had a convertible for almost 12 years now (94 sl500, 2004 SC430, 2005 SL600) When I get too old to get in one, I will give them up.

Which do you like more, the SC430 or the SL600?

The question I ask myself, could I ever go to a convertible that didn't have a folding hardtop roof?? I've gotten to love the fact that I can be in a coupe one moment, then 22sec later, a convertible!

SC430 vs SL600

The truth is that there is no comparison. I had a 94 SL500 which was getting a little long in the tooth. I decided that rather than buying another SL, I would get the SC430 and a boat, which I did. I drove the SC430 for three years, and it was a nice car. It had a few issues. For instance, they all pull when you hit the brakes, and it made a horrible sound when coming to a stop. We thought it was the brakes, but after a number of visits to the dealer and driving other SCs, it was clear it was the tires. However, with those exceptions it was a nice car. It wasn't an SL however, and last fall I decided that I would take the hit and buy an SL. Got the SL 600 and I don't think that I will ever go back to any thing less. I love this car more than anyone should ever love a physical thing. I expect that when it starts breaking I will change my mind, but right now you couldn't pry me out of it.

I was first considering the Masarati Gran Sport, but thier convertables do not look as good as the SL. Hands down I will always have a hard top convertable. The only other car I considered was the NSX-T.

I'm a convertible guy...NSX-T and SL55 are year round fun to drive. Despite the added weight, I'd wished my 996TT was a droptop as well.

Almost pulled the trigger on a 360 spyder, but just couldn't justify the cost of ownership from my research.

The question I ask myself a lot too. But most highline cars are soft-tops. Aston, Bentley, Ferrari, Lambo, XK8, 6'er. I had a R129 and previous gen XK in soft tops and the R230 is so much less stressful....I would have hated a soft top today in the rain...lol.

convertibles

I have always had a convertible and and SUV when I was single as well after I was married.
I had an MGA MII Deluxe along with Jeep Grand Cherokees and then after being married, the MGA, a Morgan, an MGTF and then another MG-TF. Along with those, an 88 Corvette Convertible, 92 300SL, 2000 CLK430 convertible and now an 05 SL500. Still have a 54 MG-TF, it is for sale, don't need it with the SL. My wife has had two MLs and now a Touareg, (we also have a Lincoln Town Car for bad weather when I can't take out the SL up here in MA) which is hands down better than the MLs. I for one could not not have a convertible. Next best thing to a motorcycle, but with steel around me for the idiots driving with the phones glued to their ears.

thats a tough question for to me to answer because i rarely drop the top on my SL....I like the coupe style better and plus i just like having the top up..........but i like knowing the fact too that i have to push a button to drop the top on certain days i feel like it thats why having the hardtop convertable is better than the soft top, you can keep the coupe look to it....If i had to choose between the hardtop or softtop i could def go with the hardtop.............

I'm the same way, like the top down on beautiful spring evenings and fall evenings. But the SL is beautiful with the top up or down.

Now that I have an SL...I can't possibly imagine a ragtop or non-convertible. If there is a feeling of "Heaven" in a car...it has to be a Mercedes SL.
