How to setup a garage opener?

I dont have a manual in my car for some reason and I got tired of opening it using my remote opener located in my glovebox every time I enter my garage.

Does anyone know how to setup the garage opener below the mid-mirrow?

To clear memory , ign on,hold down two outside buttons for about 20 sec till LEDs flash rapidly.

press one mirror button and at the same time point your car remote at it and release once LEDs flash rapidly.

These are hard things to set up as most garage doors now use a rolling code

Did you try searching the forums? This has been answered many times.

That said, if you have a rolling code garage door opener:

Push both outside buttons to clear codes.
Push the "learn" button on your garage door opener (you'll need the manual for that).
Push and hold the button you want to program until blinking on opener and mirror stops.

I've never had much luck using the remote to program the mirror remote.

If that doesn't work, try searching the forums or try a google search.

Hope this helps.

www.homelink.com has all the instruction you could ever want.

The trick is to point your remote at the forward facing side of the mirror.

There is no pointing "trick," this is radio frequencies, nothing optical. If the signal doesn't get cleanly to the unit, no matter how the devices are oriented, then it will not get correctly set. If the signal does get to the device cleanly, no matter how the device is oriented (or aimed, or even in a shoe box ), then you can set it up correctly.

Correct. 3/4 way down

I had sorts of grief because my 2004 SL didn't have the new frequencies of the garage openers. Got a convertor from Homelink which works side-by-side with the one in the garage so can use all frequencies.

Certain brand garage openers are not compatible with the MB's system. I have run into that issue in the past.

If you have the rolling code type of garage door opener, which is common on all except early ones, you have to program the car in two steps. The first is to copy the code from your hand held remote to the car by pressing the button you want to program and the button of the hand held remote until the light starts flashing quickly. Once this is done then you go to the head of the garage door opener and push the learn button. Within 30 seconds you must go back to the car and again push the same button you want to program for two seconds, release, push again for two seconds, release, and push for a third time for two seconds. The car should then operate the opener.

I am experiencing a different issue where I reset the system with the outside two buttons but when one of the three are depressed after reset the indicator light slowly blinks immediately so I am never given to opportunity to copy the handheld code. Is there a fix for this?

Fixed

It seems that the radio needed to be off, the vehicle out of the garage/away from gate at least five feet and the two second handheld copy needs to be extended to seven each time. Once the learn function was completed on the third depression the system worked and replicated it with the gate system.

They have a number of instructional videos on the "Owners Online" site. This is how I got mine to work. Good Luck

2011 Mauritius Blue SL550
I just tried to do this with my 2011 SL550, but it wouldn't work.

The problem seems to be that my garage door remote is 430 MHz, and my SL550 is equipped with code 232 - GARAGE DOOR OPENER WITH 284 - 390 MHZ FREQUENCY. (It is imported to Sweden from the US.)

Does anyone know if I can change this? Not a huge deal if I don't get it to work, but I figured I'd give it a shot and ask.

2003 Mercedes sl500 & 2012 C300 4matic
I've done both a 2012 C300 and a 2003 SL500. It's in the owners manual. Go to Ign. position #2, hold your opener remote to within 2-5 inches of the center bottom of the rearview mirror. Hold down both the remote and black button on the bottom of the mirror you want programed at the same time. The little yellow light just to the left of the 3 remote buttons will start to blink slowly, then faster. When it stops let go of both buttons and boom, that does it.
