Totally ridiculous --- I'm from OC and W.I. Simonson pulled the same thing on me when I was shopping years ago. I would expect at least $10K off of sticker on a new 2009 SL550, if not more. I just checked eBay and you can get a new SL63 AMG for $30-40K off sticker (yikes!), so surely they'll deal. I recently picked up my flawless and loaded 2007 SL550 with 26K miles for $47K, so the used market is also taking a big hit in this economy.

Fleetrates.com is advertising new 09 SL550s at $79,975 (that is over $18,000 off MSRP) and $899 per month leaserate. This is before negotiations.

S550
yeah they r nuts.... my mother wants to trade in her s550 for the sl550. And when we got there they were like there be no sl in 2010. it be limited production car so therefore we do not discount on these cars.

I am like mom lets go another dealership. She got her s550 from encino benz. We might either go back to them or try keyes on van nuys out.

I hope they have good deals out there. hahah like 80k including sales tax!!! SINCE YOU can get sl63 for 120k including taxes nowadays

On Tuesday I picked up my new SL63 from Mercedes Benz of Palm Beach. Discounts from MSRP are running $30-$40K at many locations. Reliable sources told me that the 2010 SL63, and possibly the SL550, will not be built for dealer inventory but only for customer orders. That has not stopped the current heavy discounting as there are too few buyers for these cars right now, especially the AMG cars. The main culprit is the lack of credit and availability of leases. It seems that over 70% of SL 63 cars have been leased in the past. So now, those who can afford to buy the car can pretty much hold out for a very attractive price. This is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a new AMG car at a bargain price.

bm75204...

Did you get that deal from a MB dealer, or was that a private sale? I'm in the market to get a used SL550 and that price you got is amazing!

I bought it about 25 miles from where I live at a Mercedes Benz dealership. They had more than one. The one I bought had just come off the transporter. I traded my 2009 Silver Arrow Edition quite unexpectedly. The price was the deciding factor. The dealership in Naples, Florida offered me the exact same car for pretty much the same price but that dealer is 170 miles from where I live. In effect, the dealer here matched the Naples price. They probably didn't make anything on the SL63 but should do well on the SL550 when it sells. It had just 7000 miles and was truly in "as new" condition. Maybe even better.

I can't say I don't have a lot of affection for the SL550. I really liked the smoothness and comfort of that car. The SL 63 has a very different ride and drivetrain response. The power and sound is intoxicating but I think I'll probably miss some aspects of the SL550. We'll see, it's possible I'll forget all about it once I've had the SL63 for a little while and gotten used to it.

+1. When I was searching for my SL, Simonson's customer service was pretty far down the list. If I were in the market for new, I'd probably go to Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach. Friendly folks, and while the cost is higher, it also includes a full service package. Don't know if that is normal or not (didn't get such an offer on my used 2007 up in Walnut Creek).

I've been looking as well. The discounts on the 2009 SL63 of $30-40k vs $10-15k on a 2009 SL550 almost make it pointless to get the SL550 now.

Pointless maybe, but you're still going to spend $20k-$25k more for the SL63. I realize saying that and you're already spending $100k, so in essence, what's another $20k? Definitely good buys right now if you have the money.

I just bought a 2009 SL550 last month. I paid 101K on a 111K MSRP. I would have bought a SL63 but they were not offering the 1.9% financing on the AMG's.

Actually, the gap is less than $20K; more like $5-10K. I've seen a couple of SL63's being offered at $104-105K(on ebay), while most of the SL550's I've looked at with some options are in the mid $90s to 100K.

Contrary to what I was told a few weeks ago by a dealership there may not be a '10 SL but an '11 due in the spring with very minor changes; I got this from my car broker who checked with his top MB dealership.

I just tried to configure one in Netstar and it will not allow me to order/build one. This is the first I have heard that there will be no 2010's, but as of right now I cannot build one.

Someone else on the SL forum mentioned it a few weeks ago.

Not surprised to hear about the 2010 SL550!

The forum points out, Mercedes has decided holding off on manufacturing 2010 SL550 to a limited production. I'm guessing they did that for their own benefit rather than for their loyal customer base.
Well if anyone is interested, I have a pristine 2009 in Diamond White Metallic/Stone. AMG sport pkg/not motor. This vehicle has only 1,800 miles and was priced over $110K new. It's currently priced right.
