Yep, I've got one near me. I've run into him a couple time and every time I want to expose him as the fraud that he is. Problem is, he always has his teenage daughter with him. I'm not going to embarrass the man in front of his family. But I sure want to....

The logo was not added by the owner to mislead or impress others.
Anyone who owns a mercedes knows the difference between an SL55 and SL500. I don't feel l should take it off, just to satisfy the few who are misinformed.

I suspect a dealer could be guilty of adding the badge to some of the cars. I highly doubt Mercedes would make such a mistake.
The ridiculous part is this nitwit even put it on at a different level than the SL500 and it was crooked too.

That is definitely an AMG emblem added by the dealer. It doesn't come that way from the factory...even with the sport package. I don't get it myself...it is already is a great looking car without the AMG on it...
To each his own...the owner could probably own a real AMG...he is probably the one misinformed.

With the rims I saw on this car, definately aftermarket, and correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the taillights different than what comes standard on the SL500??? I suspect the buyer added this to the car, but like the previous poster said, to each his own.

These seem to be not so rare as we all think. I drove past one yesterday and the poser thought it was hot to have that badge on.

I personally dont understand why its such a big deal if someone buys an SL with sport pkg that the dealer has put an AMG logo on, which the owner just doesnt care to take off....granted thats not to say someone who puts it/requests isnt to be flammed...i think its overboard if they add some ridiculous things like V12 badges etc...thats just me

I love the car and don't want to deal with de-badging it.
Mine is an 03 with the same colors as yours, white with tan interior. I want to change the rear tail lights to the newer 07 model, I prefer the look of the AMG lights.
Now I'm afraid I might find a mob on my front lawn yelling at me with a PA system. LOL

The SL550 I bought used had a fake badge which, with the help of some dental floss, I removed as soon as I got home. I was told the previous owner requested it stuck on at delivery. I'm delighted enough to be stepping into an SL550 instead of the C240 I traded in. I won't test drive an AMG until I can afford one which might not be in this lifetime.

i never understand this. i would never put an AMG badge on my car (unless i throw in a c32/slk32 AMG kompressor system
, that would be something huh guys???). you have an sl500 (a $90K msrp car). why do you want to go the level of somebody with a 328 bmw who slaps an M3 badge on their car. so what it has the AMG sport package. that's just what it is, a sport's package. doesn't make your car an AMG. i mean so all the e60 bmw 5 series drivers with the m pack should put M5 badges on 
i called out this girl once who had a c230 and i flat out said in front of like 10 people "that's not an AMG". she asked "how do you know!?!?" that's when i started pointing out all the stuff such as brake size, fog lights, etc. she just finally admitted that i was right. lol, i remember we called out this one guy. he got so butt hurt about it, he wanted to fight and everything lol
