sl600 front noise ?
My sl600 2006 is making a intermittent squealing noise in the front like a fan sticking. It does not do it all the time. It almost sound like a pulley squealing. I am having a hard time isolating what it is? Anyone else had this issue?

Re: SL600 Noise
The service schedule calls for replacement of the belt tensioner every 4 years on the V12. Mine didn't squeal, but after getting a new tensioner/belt, cold steering slip was gone, and ABC was noticably crisper when engine first started. I'd bet you need both.
I'd also be sure that fluids, i.e. power steering and ABC are full.

I was just going to post that topping off the fluids did not help the squeal. It sound like a high pitch noise and it does not do it all the time. I did just have a lot of work done to the ABC due to a leak. I will talk to my service adviser at MB.
Thanks so much for your input.

Your welcome, as NCE500 advisd have them check tensioner and particularly the tensioner pully (which disintegrated on me under enthusiastic warp speed accceleration), it is now an upgraded higher quality part due to failure history, if it goes; the serpentine bellt jumps off and you lose all accessories includiing power steering, (you get an appreciation for the sheer weight of the V12 lump when this happens) good luck

Again thanks,
I tried to upload the file of the sound but .m4u files are invalid.
I sent it over with your comments to my service advisor. Is this a costly repair?

RE: Price
My indy charged about $65 for the belt, $80 for the tensioner and an hour labor to install. Parts were OEM Mercedes. I'd venture around $250 - $300 at the dealer. Hope it solves your problem.

04 SL600
Just had this happen
I just had this happen on my 04 SL600. It was one of the tensioners. It went away when the belt and tensioners were replaced. To test it the shop removed the belt and ran at the engine.
