Looking & Buying Advise 2007 SL550

Been reading and researching for months, First time MB buyer, I'm leaning towards a 2007 SL550 model with or without the AMG pkg. I've also noticed that some of these late models have had 3 or 4 owners ? This is the scary part for me . I'm open for any buying or model advise, Thanks

I purchased my '07 SL550 with the AMG package towards the end of '09. It had just come off a 2 year lease so it only had one previous owner and very low miles. I don't know that I'd invest in a car with 3 or 4 previous owners. Makes you wonder why it had passed through that many hands. However, if you are looking for an '07 you won't be finding any coming of an original lease. You might find one that was owned by someone now looking to sell it but there are many more single owner cars being sold because they are coming off a lease than there are being sold by the original owner.

Certainly your price point will determine the type of mileage and condition that would be available to you on an '07. Are you set on the '07 because of their price or some other particular reason? If you have the money you might want to start looking at later model years. There are probably a lot more single owner '08 or '09's rather than '07's available. They're all pretty much the same car.

Good luck.

Thanks Joe for your reply , I guess I have a few reasons for searching for an 2007 model , one being my price range (35-45k) and there were a few changes in 07 such as new three bar grill and the taillights with the clear centers , and the new 5.5 engine. I'm looking for white with the tan interior. Thanks

58Reserve,

I think you've chosen a great car to search for. I went for the '07 for almost the same reasons, primarily because it was a new model with the larger engine. I certainly haven't been disappointed. I also think that you should be able to find a car that fits your requirements while still being within your price range. If you send me a private message with your e-mail address I'll give you the info about the firm I purchased my SL through. I don't think the rules allow me to give you that info in this thread.

Again, good luck.

'08 SLs are identical to '07 SLs. That's why it was suggested above to "expend" your search a bit.

Original restyle was for 2007 MY and lasted only 2 years - 2007 & 2008. For 2009 MY car was changed quite a bit on the exterior to qualify to be an almost a different car, IMO.

that's decent price range...should be mid-high 30's low 40's if its in good condition low miles. (under 30k)
-two notes
1)the 07 trannies need checking and software updates because there were problems
2)purchase cpo if you can and extendeded warranty if offered...abc, tranny and any other larger issues that may come up will cover your investment

Michael,

I'm not sure what you mean by a 5 or 10 spoke wheel. My 2007 SL550 with the AMG Sport package came with wheels that have 5 spokes that are split in the middle. To me it still looks like there are 5 spokes but 10 fingers. Also, AMG is clearly engraves on each wheel.

Hope that helps. And I agree that those prices seem reasonable, for a low to medium mileage car.

i have come across a few 2007 S 550's Black and Tan, some are being sold by MB Dealers, not many. They seem to be only offering 1 year CPO. Stuff i have been looking at is 60k miles for roughly 38k . Please let me know your thoughts on this. I targeted 07's as i like this price point.

Honestly, 60k miles sounds a bit high for $38k. However, if you do get a 1 year CPO warranty the extra money may be worth it. My '07 is out of warranty and I dread dealing with any significant problems. So far I've been lucky. But a leaky windshield washer tank just ran me about $500. I'd still keep looking for something with less miles since KBB says my '07 with only 24k miles, in perfect condition, is worth about $38-40k.

Good luck

I can get less miles and a more economical price from others, but they are not MB dealers. The handful of cars being sold through dealers have a higher price point. The CPO only goes for 1 year which bothers me, so i have been tossing the idea around of looking at 08's as the CPO will be 2 years? Also the AMG package really makes the car look different but then again the price goes up if you want that. Black and Tans are few and far between. Let me know your thoughts
