Hot Wire V1/Radar Detector
The dealer told me they might have to drill a hole on the dash when hotwiring the detector
Has anybody here hotwired their car??? Where can I get it done w/out drilling a hole???
Thanks

Depends on where you want to mount it...
I've mounted a Road Angel GPS Camera Detector on the windshield of my car and rather than have the wire snake across the dash to the cigar lighter, I run the cable along the front edge of the dash and down through one of the screw covers; you have to drill a hole underneath the screw cover but once you've done that, it's easy to connect up. If I sell the car, I can just replace the screw cover and no-one will know it ever existed...

Thanks for the picture.
I want to mount the detector on the windshield, just above the clock. However, the technician (from MB dealer) has never done one on SL yet, and he wants to "research" and drill a hole by the clock and connect it from there instead of from the cigarette lighter.

As you can see, I've mounted mine in front of the steering wheel, the cable runs to the nearest screw cover; if you want to mount above the clock, you'll definitely need to drill a hole somewhere, not a job for the faint-hearted - that's why I went in through the screw cover.

Of course, the steering wheel is on the wrong side for you guys, but the principle is the same, the fuse box you need to go into is in front of the driver. To drill the hole, I used a Dremel with a right angle drive attachment and lots of light to see what I was doing.

Hot Wire V1
I mounted it on the sun visor for best reception. No holes drilled on dash or anywhere.

The installation took him 2-3 hours.
I cannot remember whether he ran a power cable from the overhead console area to the visor area or if he ran the cable up the A pillar.
The power cable looks just like a regular phone cord with a RJ45 plug and was tugged behind the visor when not used.
