2008 SL better than 2002 ->?

2 years ago I owned a 2002 SL500 (R230) who gave my a lot of problems (ABC pump stopped working, struts and valves leaking, electrical problems etc.) so I ended up trading the car with a 2006 S320 CDI (W221) who have been almost without problems. The S seems like a better car that way.

Now I'm tempted to buy a 2008 SL500 (same as the US SL550 I think), but with the 2002 SL500 in mind I'm very skeptical buying a R230 again.

Is the ABC system and the car in general better than the first R230's?

Ok, do any of you have bad experiences with the 07-08 SL550? ABC, electrical issues etc.?

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
Regarding the sl.

Hi, I have an 2003 sl and have not had problems so far but who knows later on...

The newer cars have replaced the old bits that were problematic with newer and improved parts.

So a 2008 cars will be better in that respect.

But as these cars are advanced. especially the roof and suspension, everything is likely to break sometime....

But for me it's a no brainer, I have bought the car too keep it forever, so I'll just set aside a hefty sum for future repairs.

There's no other car out there as good as our sl's, so good luck with your search for your new car.

2007 SL550

I have a 2007 SL550 on which I now have 65,000 miles and have had no issues. I have performed all scheduled maintenance and have been very happy with the car.

Thank you for your reply Rune. I guess I bought the wrong car. From November 2010 to June 2011 I had repairs for prox. NOK 100,000.- (USD 17,100.-) When the roof desided to stop working I made a descision to sell the car. Enough money spent on repairs

I hope you have more luck with your car than I had with mine

I also have a silver 2003 SL500 and have not had any issues at all with the car. Of course it doesn't get driven much (just turned 9K miles).

I'm thinking about selling it to get an 09 model myself (love the body style)!

I owned a 2002 SL for 4 years and the only problem I had were the two hydraulic cylinders above the windshield. I then got an 05, bought a warranty and 4 years and 12000 miles later no problems, great car. I just traded for an 09 SL 63. Will my "luck" continue? I hope so!

R230 SL500
Just bought a 2008 (facelift) SL500 with c 44,000 miles on the clock. So far very pleased. Just covered some 500 miles and no problems to speak of. Thulite Red with Cream Interior - very pretty! Should I have got an AMG? Not sure - probably a lot more expensive in fuel and servicing??
