Make sure you loosen all of the control arms when lowering, and tighten back up at ride height, if not it will wear them out prematurely as they will already under load.

Please could you elaborate on that? I thought you need to do the final tightening when vehicle is on the ground.

That's what he's saying: loosen when doing the ride height change then tighten again for the new height, with the car at rest on its wheels.

Got it. I wonder if there is a good video where they show exactly where or which bolts should be loosen and tighten?

Did you go with the Hiro coil overs? How do you like them?

I went with the Hiro’s. I’m quite happy with them. My biggest mistake I made was not driving immediately after I installed them for height - I thought I set them too high, then I lowered - then after driving a little - it settled maybe a little too low. Newbie mistake.

Thanks for the reply. I think that will be my choice as well. Did you add sway bars? I’m going to start without them and maybe add them later from vvk.

I did. From the research I did it’s only if you are going to be taking car on the track. And I have lot of twisty roads by me -

Hi, I was re-reading my response and clearly forgot the “Not” in my answer about sway bars. I did NOT add sway bars. Personally I don’t feel the need - Handles really nicely.

I have spent plenty on my 03 R230 ABC suspension over the years and now it seems I need a new pump. Pumps are impossible to find, and the cost of a decent rebuild (from Germany) are through the roof. Things have added up and it seems like now might be the time to pull the plug on the ABC suspension on what is otherwise a very good car. In my view the ABC suspension is the 'Achilles Heal' of the what is otherwise a good car design, and is a primary reason you see so many of these cars now being sold on auction sites. It is literally like driving a time bomb.

I'm not really in a position to do the work myself at this point in my life. Does anyone know of a reputable shop in the Toronto Ontario Canada region that has a good record of doing coil over conversions? Hoping to find someone with past experience/success in this region/area that can provide a quote to do the job.

Thanks, Doug

Over the years of owning Benz and Porsche, for anything complicated I’ve used EU Autowerkes in Woodbridge. Coincidentally, I just bought a 2012 R230 and it’s at the dealer where I bought it having the ABC pump replaced as it was really noisy. Source for the pump is FZT, a German company that specializes in remanufacturing these things. Not cheap though. Funny how everything for Benz and Porsche is not cheap.

I’m new to this site. My first post. Hope I’m not a regular contributor to the ABC threads. Good luck.

Thanks @Receiver52 for the EU Autowerkes reference.
I have also recently found out about a highly recommended source https://zaedowautomotive.de/ (also out of Germany), so it will be interesting to compare what they charge for a rebuilt pump.
Cheers, Doug
