Just drove Home with our new SL500

It arrived and just drove home the new SL. Very impressive with the 7 speed. Also came with Michelon Pilots fortunately, I would not have taken the car with Dunlaps. Dealer did take my hold order for the Sat radio Sirius which he expects in January. Dealer installed my V-1 and delivered the car in waxed, buffed and in spit-shined condition

Does nayone have the MB luggae which fits behind the seats? If so impressions would be appreciated.

From what we got, maybe keyless go and distronic. Having come from a Porsche, I like the all leaher wheel vs the fancier wood one. (even though I added wood wheel to my boat) I also enjoy the road noise isolation. Porsche had more power and somewhat more road feel, the SL has it all over it in creature conforts and noise management. The Porsche had a better quality sound system. The NAV on the MB is tinny compared to either the Porsche or our MB S class. I wiuld also on my wish list add soft close doors (like the trunk lid) and would like to see a powered trunck lid like the E and S classes have.

So much for 15 miles

This forum is interesting. I have a 03 E500 (11 months old) in addition to my 04 SL500 (6 weeks old). Most people in the E500 forum file complaints about the car and/or service.

I had one issue with the E500 which the dealer fixed on the 3rd try. My SL has been virtually flawless. That's not bad performance.

I've had the SL for just about 2 months and have experienced NO problems. I have a friend with an 03' E and 04' E and have not heard of any major problems...I guess time will tell.

Radar detector made by Valentine. Official name is ValentineOne

It is both a front and rear radar and laser detector. It has arrows to show direction of signal relative to car.

hey john, long time no talk. i think the w211 has more problems because the sl has been out longer, and because they make more. the SL is more exclusive

richard2725,

Can you post a picture of where the radar detector is mounted? The MB techicians don't know how to hotwire the V1 onto the new SL yet.... They suggested to drill a hole on the dash and I told "hell no"

OK, here they are. Impromptu with towel over windshield. I am using a lower resolution so that I could post a few views

Happy Holiday to All

Richard

Loving the SL and now thinking about the SL55. The extra power is needed to get a more Porsche feel.

BMMS8,

My point is that they are both great cars; they're just different.

If need be I use the suction cup mount. I find that I never pull down the visor based upon my seating position.

Further interesting note I had a chance to drive my 2001 Porsche 996 for last time today. Much more power, much quicker steering, much worse brakes and more importantly the SL feels like a 100K vehicle while the Porsche feels like a Porsche.

I think however, next car will be the SL55. I do miss the push back in seat acceleration of the Porsche. I will say however that the SL is one of the finest vehicles I have driven include Beamers, Benz and a few other exotics.

More on the V-1. Have now suction cup mounted it to the windshield just to the left and below the dotted black out section. Visor can open 90 degrees or so, mirror is now usable and it seems to work fine.

Car is going back to dealer with 260 miles tomorrow, it is drifting slight to right even with a nuetral to left crowned roadway.
