SL/R230: Rear cats coming apart, can I delete?

I did a secondary cat delete on my E55 and the light comes back on after 3 or so days. Car doesn't run any differently, just has the damn light on. Well I'm selling it and just went to a buddy's shop who is an Audi/VW enthusiast and they always gut the cats or straight remove them altogether and use O2 sensor defoulers which they just put into my car. It's only been a day so I hope it works because that damn light needs to stay off....

03 sl500, there is no sensor for the rear cats. I deleted mine about a year ago and have never had an issue. If you have a newer model and they are not damaged you are covered for 8 years or 80k miles though

How does it sounds? I'm considering a performance exhaust because I wasn't a little more sound. Don't need*obnoxiously*loud but I'd like to hear it!

It sounds perfect honestly. It's mean when you step on it but still refined and gives a great burble on the down shifts. The best $100 I have spent on the car hands down.
If you still want more noise after the CAT delete just swap in a K6 muffler for the rear resonator. First video is just the cat delete, second is the k6 muffler.
Seriously do it. but make sure the exhaust shop is welding in the straight pipes and doing a good job. First time i did it they used clamps and that just doesn't work with this car.

Hey SL4Life, Thanks for the above info ..
However my concern is not merely removing the CATS ..My real issue is HOW TO FOOL THE SYSTEM now that the CATS are missing and keep the CEL off if the four O2 sensors are still installed and not "fixed"... I understand there is a way to "plug or detour" the circuitry to the system to make the system THINK the CATS are still installed and keep the CEL light off ?
Any info appreciated..

Hey Guys,
REALLY appreciate the info being generated and shared in this discussion... Hopefully, if what we compile is accurate, it will be useful to many others on this website..
Now... to sum what I believe is the info to date is : The 2003 R230 in stock form CAN have the catalytic converters removed (although in some states this is illegal and must be "discretely" performed) ..HOWEVER the O2 sensors - TWO (2) ONLY ??? must be dealt with by installing "defoulers".
Lastly, is there any fuel mixture compensation adjustments needed ..
Again thanks guys.... Ron

So I got the car back today after having the rear cats removed and I am a very happy camper!
I'll describe the sound as follows:
She's still a lady, but when you step on her the freak comes out!! )
#noperformanceexhaustneccessary
