Sounds like you may need accumulators or have air in the system.

That is the symptom of blown accumulators. Plan to do all 4.

May I chime in with a question? These accumulators, I've seen them for sale from anywhere from $120 to over $350 each. Can they be rebuilt or just different manufacturers (aftermarket crap)?

They can't be rebuilt, the rubber membrane inside breaks down and they lose the nitrogen charge they have.
Just buy new OEM ones, they aren't cheap but they are key to the system working correctly.

Your MY 2008 550 has 3 accumulators; 1 pulsation dampener mounted on the pump(hopefully replaced with the new pump) and 2 pressure accumulators, front and rear , located in front of wheel wells driver side front and rear. I recently replaced all 3 , the small pulsation dampener was around $300, the 2 pressure accumulators were around $140 each . Not sure why the much smaller pulsation dampener was twice the price of the accumulators. My pulsation dampener and rear accumulator failed within weeks of each other , so replace all 3. My 2007 550 has 45K which seems to be within the normal time for failure. From what I have learned this is considered normal maintenance for these cars. Be sure to replace the fluid and filter at the same time if you have not done so already.

Those are the ones I purchased and were identical to the originals

Make sure you purchase the ones specific for the MY07 and later, they are different than the earlier years and there are only 3 rather than 4 in 03-06. I found the best price for the 2 pressure accumulators to be PartsGeek.com. I do not recall where I found the pulsation dampener, I think I just did an eBay or google search.

Anyone have the OEM part number for those accumulators ?
The large ones are 2203270115 .
Are there any else I should have replaced?
I own a sl500 v8 engine 306hp 2002 and would like to order a few. Not sure how many I would need to replace all of them
thanks for posting the question Cruz

As I've read on other threads, it's best to practice "preventive medicine" and replace all the accumulators and pulsation dampers. Also do a fluid flush and filter change.
