O5 SL 500 no start
Couple weeks ago went out to start car, turned key got nothing. Only sound is the clicks from relay behind pass seat and from starter relay from passenger side fuse box under hood. As a result of sitting now the car has dropped down and ABC lights are on. Any help is greatly appreciated. Heard alot of this is from battery issues. I have checked and made sure batteries are good. Thanks

I suppose the contacts of the starter relay could be burned and no longer able to pass the necessary current to the solenoid. You might pry off its cover and visually inspect them. Another possibility is a faulty ignition switch or prefuse, but if that were the case other systems would be affected as well. Still, I would investigate that by checking that 12VDC is supplied to socket #30 of the starter relay with the key in position 2. If the relay is good and receiving power, then the presumption is a faulty motor starter.

Apparently the starter solenoid is not pulling in, since it is considerably louder than the starter relay.

Thanks again, any help is much appreciated.

Yeah, I had to replace my starter a few months back. It was easy to check - I put a voltmeter on the starter itself, then tried the ignition - 12.5 volts. I bought a rebuild with lifetime warranty from AutoZone (I prefer to shop at Advance, but they couldn't get it as quickly and was more expensive). Other than the big "made in China" label on it, it definitely works much better than the OE unit - it rotates the engine much faster. I would say that was because of the failure of the original starter, but having had a CLK550, it was also slower.
