SL/R230: 2005 Sl 500 Drivers Seat Removal

Removing the seat is easy - move it all the way forward, then remove the two rear bolts, then all the way back, remove the front bolts, then move it halfway to remove (unplugging electrical connectors as needed). There are "external" Torx bolts, so make sure you have the right tools.

If you have multi contour seats you'll also have to disconnect the air line at the front left of seat. These sucka's are very heavy. I can just barely lift them out on my own.

Seriously, you are right - the seats are heavy, so be careful, and maybe get a helper to keep from damaging things.

Yep, a good cleaning is on my list, too. And what I'd love to do is somehow upgrade the fans for the ventilated seats. MBZ ventilated seats are just wimpy, almost useless. My wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee has excellent ventilated seats - you can almost float an air hockey puck on them.

I'll be doing a fan upgrade soon, there's a lot of useful info on this thread.

I like the Crafstman Max Axess sockets as they fit "everything" and can be used in tight spaces:

This is something I'd like to do also. I've read through that thread and another that is linked within that thread too.
The back of seat fans look reasonably straight forward, however it appears that nobody has been game enough to tackle the fans in the bottom seat cushion yet.
Rodney, I reckon you're the right bloke to lead the way!

Question for you veterans of R230 seat removals: are the pneumatic hoses readily accessible once the seats are removed?
Reason I ask: my pneumatic seat bolsters don't work. I know the pump is good, so I'm suspecting a break in the hoses and/or the couplings. It's no big deal ... I don't like seat bolsters ... but if they should work then they should work. I'm in no hurry to work on removing the seats unless I find a reasonable likelihood my work will lead to remedies for the pneumatic bolsters. And I'm not trying to hijack this thread.

Checkout my post here. I had a break in the air line under the seat. From searching, looks like others have had a break in the same spot.
