Here are the instructions. I followed them to do the install on my 2003 SL55.

Where in Michigan are you located? Our son lives in Ann Arbor and has installed a number of the SmartTops.

Good luck

Tim

I installed mine myself, but had him on the phone for a few questions. I sent him the link to this thread. Perhaps he will jump in and comment.

I installed this myself in the CLK, then move it to the SL. It's really easy, though tight working behind the seat in the SL. Just make sure you get the polarity on the Tyco connector correct. I did not realize the SL and CLK are reversed, so I spent half an hour trying to get it to work on the SL before going back to the instructions and and finfing i had to re-do that connector.

One issue I have with mine is that the open and close works up to 39mph, except the trunk lid won't close unless I'm below 25mph. I just haven't bothered to email them for support. And they are very responsive to - I had some issues with in the CLK and they sent me a patch.

I just installed one on my 2011 SL 550 last weekend. It took me about 2 hours. I had installed one previously in my '07 CLK 550 a couple years back. Just make sure you check and double check the polarity of the wiring harness incl with the module before you start. You will need a magnifying glass to see the imprinted #1 and # 2 on the plugs. i found using a tool that I included in the pic makes it easier to remove the can bus and its protective cover, so you don't break it. The only issue I ran into was, I thought once I connected the module to the power and ground, that the green light was supposed to be on. It came on initially and then went out. I connected and reconnected the power and the ground about 3 or 4 times. I went back and watched the video a few times and realized that the light will not stay on until it is connected into the can bus. I found the proper connection on the 3rd try. I had the top down and the passenger seat all the way forward to work. Make sure you have plenty of light. You need to be able to operate the unlock on your remote to test, so make sure the seat is all the way back in normal position or the lock and unlock will not work. I found that out the hard way after a few tries. It works perfectly and I really missed having it. In hind sight I should have pulled it off of my CLK. Good luck.

Steve

Cool thnx guys, will see how this goes ones I get it within this week! I'm pretty good with electrical! Does everyone that did this, just disconnect the negative battery cable, or work with the cables already connected then start doing the crimping?

I did not disconnect the battery. I just tapped directly into the Red/Green + wire, the brown ground wire and the can bus per the instructions. No sparks or blown fuses,so that was a good thing.

Ditto here on not D/C the battery. Unless you think you might do something really stupid and careless, there is not reason to do so.
