SRS Light - Seat Belt Buckle?

My 2007 SL55 has a SRS fault that my mechanic said is caused by the driver's seatbelt buckle. However, when I sit in the car, the seatbelt light is on until I buckle the seatbelt; then it goes off. Wouldn't that indicate that the buckle is good and not causing the SRS fault?

Thanks

My '03 is different from yours but it would seem to be a normal thing that it would go out when buckled and on when unbuckled. Let's see what some other members say. I can hardly imagine a switch within the buckle assembly but who knows in these modern times.

Thanks for the reply. I should have been clearer. The switch is in the receptacle into which the belt tang is inserted.

In that case your indy is likely correct. If you can remove it it might be repairable. If I ever own two SL's I think I'll stick to an '03 as I see these small changes in design factors (like I have a trans filler tube) make things more complex than what is needed to enjoy the car for we DIY'ers. I hope you get it all straightened out.

What's the error code? I doubt it has anything to do with the seat belt buckle, but it could be the pre-tensioner.

Thanks Rude,
I wasn't told what the code is and my scanner only reads engine codes.

I'd always get the specific codes whenever a tech scans your car. Or, do it yourself:

Well there you go! The MB-II model is nicer than the i980. Let us know what the codes are on the SRS.

Last night I got a 9183 code meaning that the resistance in the r12 squib circuit is too high. Upon testing the seat belts, I got R68/3 and R68/4 codes for the driver's seat belt indicating it was not connected. I still don't understand how it can be disconnected if it turns the seat belt indicator off.
