SL/R230: How to raise the wiper arms

What a dumb design.
On my Lexus, you grab the wiper and force it up the windshield slightly, it clicks into a service position and the wiper clears the hood at that point.

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
On VW, you hit the stalk after switching off the ingnition and presto - the wipers arms position themselves in service position (and why this print is in bold, heaven knows).

Eventually, the plastic piece used to click and hold the blades in place will wear or break and then you'll be left with floppy wipers. To me, that is a dumber design.

Its a Lexus. My old one was 15 when I traded it with 185k miles and the mechanism worked fine.
Current one is 7 or so and also just fine....

I've had the (dis)pleasure of owning and working on many Toyotas. Ive worked on many cars from many makes and MBZ by far seems to make the most sense to me. Not everything they do is wonderful, but overall, I find it better than anything else.

No problem swappin wipers when they are in the parked position either but you have to be careful not to scratch the hood..
But i have to admit that i have not thought of switching the wipers on and turn off the ignition while the wipers is in the straight up position, That must for sure be the best way to swap wiper blades.
But here in Europe you can not get the SL class wiper blades anymore but you get from the E class which does not look good
So i just bought long enough cheap wiper blades and took off the wiper rubber and thead them into the old wiper blade holders. Looks much better than the large fasteners used on the E class
You can get Bosch wipers that look like the original wipers with the smaller fasteners that was used on the SL, R230. The identical wipers are: Bosch AeroTwin nr A 948 S
