Clocks don’t match up

Every time I try to reset the date and time using command center the month, year, and hour are faded ouT. The only thing I can adjust is the minutes and only by 30 min at a time. The dashboard digital clock does not synch. Any suggestions?

Try disconnecting the battery at exactly 12:00 and then reconnect it.

I apologize that I don't have the specific menu / submenu items in front of me but here is what you do:
Use the steering wheel to get into the time function. One would think you would use the center display, but you need to use the steering wheel instead.
Once you find the time submenu, change the time to manual
At that point you can save / exit / go and update the time
Then go back into the time submenu and set back to automatic

It's crazy... and super (un)intuitive... and for whatever reason, google searches won't typically provide an answer. Hope this helps.

I'll do my best. Just went out to the car (2005 SL) to replicate the instructions.
1) Everything is going to be performed from the steering wheel
2) Start the car. Go to Settings (on left) To reset: Press reset button for 3 seconds (on right)
3) Press the down arrow (you may have to press up or down here) to get to
4) Time sync. with head unit (on left) + / - On / Off
You're doing this to "break" the head unit's stranglehold on your ability to set the time
5) Press the down arrow to turn Off
6) You may have to exit here
7) Go back in and you should see a Set time Minutes (on left) + / - HH MM (on right)
8) Set the minutes using + / - buttons
9) Set the hours using the + / - buttons
You should see the clock on the center COMAND unit change as you do this
10 Get back to Time sync. with head unit and set back to On
11 Exit out

Hope this helps.
David

Awesome, I knew there was an engineering menu on my E class but did not know of one on the SL. I will try this later but your instructions make sense.

Many thanks to both of you.

Hi,

Thx for the replies, however in my 2003 r230 I could not find the ‘time synch’ I will look again but am unable this far.

Also at times when I set the time through command module the month, date and year are sometimes not highlighted. And if they are and I reset to the present time etc, it reverts back to 12, 20, 2000nafter a few minutes of driving.

I am at a loss.

I have an indentical car to Bill and same exact problem. I am not able to complete steps 3 from these instructions. I simply dont have that option from any of the settings menus.

If your car doesn’t have the menu, it’s possible to add it using SDS with developer mode.

Hi - this is likely my only option. I do have an all singing and dancing SDS setup (pmercury supplied) but I'm unsure which module this function would relate to. Looking around I can't find it. Would it be the controls or the command module?

I did a fair amount of research and it does appear that the 2003 and possibly 2004 have a different menu options. See (pg. 137) on 2005 guide https://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/Digital..._sl5565amg.pdf
vs the 2003 menus.
Internet searches (it's always true right) indicate that the only way to reset the non- COMAND heads are the SDS, dealer, or doing the midnight process...
Sorry for saying this... but Mercedes botched this pretty big time... I don't think it's cool that one can't set a clock...

Thanks for that. I can confirm for my 2003 car the 'Time' menu does not exist. (p147).

I will try the '12:00' trick and also leave both batteries disconnected to see if this works. Still welcome any guidance on how and where the menu could be enabled if anyone knows in SDS.
