What just happened??

I was taking a nice spirited drive and passed a car after decelerating I notice a check engine light is on and get this the speedometer is stuck a 72mph and RPM needle stuck at 2.2k RPMS.

Speeding up or slowing down and the needled is still stuck.

I brake hard and everything is back to normal and working again.

I get home and turn off the car to see if the check engine light will clear upon a restart.

I try to start the CAR and it won't start at all..I just get a SHORT CRANK sound and SILENCE. Not a click or anything. Just a half a crank noise. The car doesn't turn over even.

I'm currently at my uncles and do not have STAR here or any tools.

Has anyone seen this before?

My quick reply would be to check both batteries and their connections make sure they are tight and secure, twist to clear any corrosion and tighten.

I had similar experience when the starter battery died. It showed the charge in voltmeter, but did not crank. I replaced the front battery and did not see any issues afterwards.

thanks for the replies guys. I didn’t sleep at night after reading some threads on seized engines.

I went out today and she barley started up, but she did and the red light appeared is that for the front or rear battery? I have my rear on a tender.

also the check engine light is still there and my STAR is not here sigh..even idle felt rough a little hmm

I hope I didn’t waste my one start on this and will be stranded when I need to leave in a few days. I have no tools or voltometer nothing here.

My radar is showing a 14.1 charge thru the cigarette lighter, I’m guessing my alternator is functioning but I think it charges the rear.

What if my car is not charging the starter battery and this is the reason..come to think of it I remember STAR telling me a few months back that car can not communicate with the battery module.

I had similar symptoms and it was the starter battery. Hooked up jump starter and car cranked right up. unplugged jumper cables, Turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on

Start with the battery

I got the car back to my house as expect once I turned it off the car wouldn’t restart. I grabbed my voltmeter and it read 11.68. Which led me to believe the battery is going bad and second the battery is not charging!?

I hooked up STAR and it turns out my check engine was from B28 pressure sensor which people say happens with ecu tunes..I’ve had mine for 2 years this is the first time.

Now for the juicy details it seems my car is missing the BNS unit(BCM) as it’s not even reading it and I have multiple errors. FRIED?? Attached are screenshots. B1132

What am I looking at? Do I need a new module or should I check some relays first or can I just get a new battery and keep it on a charger for life....

Do what many people suggested, change the starter battery. Don’t get distracted by DAS, if the voltage is low many modules will throw errors. You don’t have to keep the car on a charger if you have a good battery. I have an older post here, there is a recreational Vehicle battery (I think it is group size U2, not the band) that fits almost perfectly and it is very cheap. I have it since 2011 and starts like a champ. If you’re interested PM me and I’ll pop the hood to get you some pics.

gafitanu,

Can you please verify the group size? I checked on Group U2, and that does not seem to be correct - at least not for my '03 R230.

Thanks,

Gary

Update: New front battery charge is 12.83

Still have a Red light warning.

Upon starting the car the voltage stays at 12.73-12.80

It seems my front battery isn’t getting a charge and since the BCM is responsible for that I’m guessing mine short circuited at some point..

Will need to find a way to get to it

Isn’t the BCM the module that catches fire in the trunk? I’ve read quite a few threads that outline it.

I might be wrong and would be willingly corrected but the BCM charges both batteries but does the Convenience battery first, so it might not be a charging issue?

Secondly your red alert light won’t automatically go if your battery is now at correct charge. It needs clearing down through STAR or a code reader such as Foxwell. There is a procedure that will clear it without any of these, but I can’t remember what it is. The main point is, that red warning won’t go on it’s own, even if everything is now fine.

Front Battery is now 12.10.

No charging what so ever...
