2003 SL500 Roof Leaking

Put the top down yesterday so I can enjoy this beautiful DC weather. Got to my location and closed the top. Came back to my car and noticed oil on the passenger side door. I bent over and cleaned it up. Drove another 5 minutes and made a sharp turn and noticed oil leaking from the front roof near the liner on to the door again

I'm reading this is a lock cylinder. Anyone had an indy change this for them? What was the cost? Looks like a tedious job.

With fall/winter fast approaching I may hold off on addressing this issue unless it will lead to other costly issues

The oil is ruining that window seal, which will wrinkle. I understand they are wickedly expensive.

I would fix it before you have to replace the headliner. You can get an o-ring with instructions specifically for the r230 on ebay for the currently leaking front lock cylinder. Top Hydraulics said this is a temporary fix. Mine is still working after 6 months. Here is their hydraulics diagram. I used their rebuilds for 5 more cylinders; and they are working fine.

For diagram of the 10 cylinders:

I had a shop replace it for me. There is a way a member mentioned above that involves cutting it and using a coupler which will be much cheaper...I believe the shop charged around $400 for the job and is local to DC

Leaking water from the heavens may be an altogether different problem than leaking hydraulic oil. Your top cylinder may be lacking locking power due to an internal leak, or you need adjustments made, or perhaps a rubber seal needs to be addressed.

Lock cylinder was the culprit. Decided to go with a new part

$980 for parts and labor
