how to fill 2003 sl 500hardtop roof hydraulic pump/reservoir
Hey! New member here. I did a search and couldn't find any advice how to fill my 2003 sl500 hardtop roof hydraulic pump/reservoir in the trunk. Any good advice?

R230 SL500; previously 280CE and 180E.
Remove the screw-in alloy plug from the fill hole of the reservoir closest to the front of the car and closest to the left fender. It requires a little pressure to get fluid in. I use a 10 ml plastic syringe with a thin plastic tube over the syringe nozzle and a rubber/plastic plug from a brake wheel cylinder fitted tightly over the plastic tube. (I drilled a hole through the rubber/plastic plug first.) This fits snugly into the fill hole and allows hydraulic fluid to be forced into the pump reservoir, but any similar plug will do, so long as it fits snugly into the reservoir fill hole and over the plastic tube. It takes a few refills of the syringe to fill the reservoir.
Open the other alloy plug (furthest from the front of the car) for venting purpose.

What matters most is: do you have a leak somewhere in the system? If yes, find it and tackle it, before anything else. And don't operate the roof if you don't have to.
