I recently purchased a 2004 SL500 and my insurance more than doubled. Wanted to find out if that's the norm. Im with USAA, 50yo male. My other 4 cars were about $2500 per year. None of them are anything special, daily drivers. When i added the SL, it increased my premium by almost $3k per year. I knew it would be expensive, but that is almost a quarter of the cars value every year. Has that been others experience?
thanks

Call Hagerty classic car insurance and have them insure the SL and possibly more of your vehicles, say you drive those only for pleasure a few miles a week. Hagerty will save you a ton of money! My insurance was due to cost about $8000 a year before I looked into this. Now it is a third of that. I have one car insured by Allstate and five insured by Hagerty. Designate one car as your daily commuter with your existing company, and the others as pleasure/collector cars. Insurance can be SUCH a ripoff! Even if you only insure the SL with Hagerty it will be much cheaper.

Something's definitely wrong. My 6 MB's average about $600/yr each for full coverage. That inlcudes two AMG's.
USAA used to be a great company, but no longer. I used them for almost 40 years and watched the decline. If you don't go with Hagerty or some other collector car insurer, give State Farm a call. My 04 SL600 is insured with them for about $500 a year (no annual mileage or other limitations).

I'm 49 and USAA charges me $568 every 6 months for full coverage (2005 SL500). I drive mine every day so the mileage is over most of the weekend car options.
wow, just got a quote from Hagerty's. $528 a year for full coverage. $1500 savings from what im paying now. Wonder what is going on with USAA? I use to be a die hard USAA customer, all insurance through them, now i have to shop around a bit...

Geico is not that great either as a former 47 years customer. I switched all my coverage's house, umbrella , 3 cars and saved 2 thousand dollars on my total bill My Florida Policy has a 2020 GLE and my 2004 Sl500 I am charged 1728.00 per year. with 250 deductible and 100,000 Property Damage to meet the needs of the Umbrella. We get so comfortable we forget to shop.

If your R230 isn't the car you drive daily to work, and you have another car, check your regular insurance company quote then check Hagerty and the difference will be so much that you won't have to look all over. I have my GL450 SUV insured by Allstate and all my other cars (5) are covered by Hagerty for less than the one SUV! And I had a cracked windshield in my R170 SLK and they paid for a new Mercedes genuine windshield, which was more than the cost of the insurance for five cars! I couldn't be more impressed with Hagerty. Especially after Allstate was going to be costing $8000 a year!
I was paying $384/yr for full coverage, $250k/$500k/$100k liability, $500 deductible comp/collision on an '03 SL500 with State Farm.

I am not paying too much for my insurance. I am paying two hundred dollars a month for my Dodge Durango. I don't use too many modifications for my insurance because most of them are useless. I have read on moneyexpert.com what coverages are useful, and I insured my car only in such cases. I use windscreen coverage, car keys coverage, accident coverage, and coverage if my car is stolen. I have never used my insurance and hope it will never happen. I am paying for insurance just because it is necessary by law, but I would never pay for this if I could.

I may switch to Hagerty for a few cars, just based on positive feedback in this thread. However, bundled real estate insurance costs are also a significant factor for me.

This is just some kind of robbery, because how can the car tax increase from the number of cars? I haven't heard about this before, and I think there may be some mistake, maybe you should contact the tax service and sort out this issue. To avoid such situations, I downloaded an application https://squeeze.com for myself, which tracks my utility expenses, tax expenses and other expenses in one application, it is very convenient and saves me time. In addition, I can immediately submit an application with any question through this application, rather than going somewhere and wasting my time. I could recommend it to you, but I don't know if it would be useful to you. Good luck friend!
Insure a 2010 ML350 & 2017 E400 wagon thru Cincinnati Insurance ML350 is $726 & 2017 E400 $1169 total $1895 a year. Could probably do a little better if I shopped around but not changing so save just a few $$$$$ - last time I shopped (long time ago) the savings was less than $200 a year.
Coverage Single limit & combined $1,000,000. Damage Other $250 deduct, collision $500 deduct. other coverage towing, roadside, Rental & gap.
Credits applied - Multi Car, Package (have homeowners), Pay Plan discount, Preferred Risk.
Both cars are primary Transportation. insured for full replacement cost.
I live in Shenandoah Valley, VA - where you live will have a lot to do with costs.
Had my 2013 Audi cabrio totaled out last July due to road debris that destroyed the engine, Cincinnati offered fair amount at 1st then came back with an additional $3,500 without too much fuss, told them to find me another 2013 Audi Cabrio for what they were offering, and I'd accept - they came back with the additional $$$
They were easy and great to deal with. NO HASSEL

I'm sure it varies tremendously by state and other factors but I pay $1200/year (the SL is my only car) with a $2k deductible (not going to use it for anything small). No tickets/claims/points.Originally Posted by warnerca

I am with USAA also and my 2005 SL500 costs me just under $600 a year. We probably have different coverages and live in different insurance ratings zones but I didn't think my premium is too high. It's much less than the premium on my 2016 S550 Coupe. Give them a call and talk to them about it.Originally Posted by warnerca
