What size and type/style hub caps will fit this SL500 wheels?

Hi All,

I've been trying to find different hub caps for my SL500 stock wheels in other colors other than the original silver background hub caps. For example like black glossy background, or black with Mercedes words etc.

But, what I find on eBay are hub caps with different types of attachment design. There are ones with 3 prongs, and also ones with a a metal circular ring inside that pushes the prongs out.

Do the 75mm hub caps fit the stock SL500 wheel? And what kind of attachment design will fit? I read somewhere that the ones with the metal ring inside maybe won't fit.

Thank you!!

The 75mm caps fit the SL500 wheel pictured. I have those wheels and replaced my caps with cheap ones from Amazon. The plastic clips were very tight and it required care to not break them while installing.

The ones I bought were labeled "SB Wheel Center Caps For Mercedes Benz 75mm - Raised Star Wheel Rim Insert Caps (Silver)". The amazon page isn't available for them anymore

Hi Chad!!

Thank you for the reply! Do you remember how many prongs/clips there were on each center cap? And where the clips reinforced with a metal ring?

I see these 2 types of interior designs. One with metal ring inside and one with just 3 prongs.

Thanks!

The top picture, with the metal ring is what I bought. It was very tight to go in, so I removed the ring on some of the wheels to get it in. I think the caps in either picture would work.

Hi Chad,

Thank you!

I was thinking of the potential need to remove the ring as well.

Quick follow up question Chad since you have the same wheel, did you remove the center caps with the wheels off and pushed from the inner side of the wheels? Or did you some how took out the center caps with the wheels still mounted to the car?

And also the original silver center caps, did those have the metal ring inside?

Thanks!!

Sadly my wheels are fairly beat up. I pried the caps off with a screwdriver while still on the car. I wasn't worried about scratching the wheel as they have already peeled quite a bit. I don't think my old caps were original as they were cracked and pealing.

On my wish list is to either resurface the wheels, or buy new ones, I like the original wheels more than most after market, but I worry about them. The car has 120k miles and wasn't in the garage most of its life. Still looks great, but nobody would mistake it for new. My car is definitely a daily driver, not a show car.

Hi Chad,

Finally someone who likes the stock wheels more than most aftermarket wheels just like me. There are some AMG wheels and aftermarket wheels that look quite exotic, but I find once you start down that path the rest of the car has to follow for a more complete package.

I have some ideas to remove the center caps without removing the wheel or damaging the paint. I’m thinking about repairing the curb rashes on mine.

Thanks!!!

If you do some repair, I'd love to see before and after pictures. It might inspire me to fix mine!

I just used a very small screwdriver wrapped with a cloth to pry off. Removed the wire spring ring and the caps went on perfectly - driven @ 1,500 miles - no problems. The caps are so inexpensive on ebay, buy an extra set. The ebay caps are a perfect match (cosmetically) to my OEM.
