Just bought a 2007 SL550...in 2021

Hi all!

I just purchased a 2007 Mercedes Benz SL550 with 37K miles on the clock. Here is a picture:

Everything works great. However, I do have a couple of quirks that I wanted to ask about. First, after you start up the car -- every 15 minutes or so -- I can feel the massage seats slightly move for a split second. I checked the massage buttons below the seat and nothing seems to be stuck, broken or activated. Not a huge deal just wondering if that is normal or a problem that could get bigger.

Second quirk, I accidentally bumped the shifter from "D" to the + sign and I guess it put it on "manual" mode. I quickly put it back to D and the car would not move. Is this normal? Is there something I have to press to default it back to drive? I had to turn the car off and on in the middle of traffic in order to get it driving again. Weird.

Also, where can I find these exact seat covers!!! Someone in the For Sale section posted this years ago and the terms they used didn't exactly give a brand name. Thanks!

With regards to your seat, check if the 'pulse' button is not by chance pressed, or stuck. I had this happen where the button pressed but didn't release fully (so stayed pressed). Fiddle with it and you might realize this is it.
Nice car. Just bought exact same '07 SL550 w AMG package (color as well) a few months ago but with 57k miles.

Hello, congratulations on your 07 SL550, hope you will like it!!! As for sheepskin seat covers, I had them on my SL a few years ago. I purchased them off eBay, check this listing:https://www.ebay.com/itm/MBZ-Factory...-127632-2357-0

or search eBay for r230 sheepskin seat

Those covers are generally good, but beware of the following:
a) the seat covers are relatively bulky and once installed, the curvature of prominent SL side bolsters is not being experienced anymore.
b) over the time, sheepskin loses it’s fluffiness in the area of the most body contact, especially on the bottom seat cushion. Appearance of the seats is not appealing anymore.
c) after a few years, the amount of dust accumulated is enormous and a cleaning service could be necessary.

The periodic air input into the lumbar support is somewhat normal on these cars. A small leak in the bladder causes the control unit to recognize the reduced pressure and air it up. If the leak gets too big the PSE system will shutdown the seat and not allow air into the seat. You have to take the seat apart to fix bladder leaks. I suggest living with it until it gets worse. The other option is to deflate the bladder completely so the controller won't try and inflate it.

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Moving the shifter left/right locks the transmission into the next lower/higher gear (you know that, of course). To release it back to automatic, move the shifter to the right and hold briefly.
(at least that's the ceremony on my 2005 722.6 tranny).
Toggling the shifter should never leave you stranded. The TCU takes care of keeping you within permissible range.

Congratulations, Fabulous car. I liked my 2004 SL600 so much that I also bought a 2007 SL550 last year, and I drive the 550 more often. Also black.I don't think I ever want to be without at least one R230, as long as I live!

I wish I would've got this car in either White or Red but black is not bad either. Show us some pictures

Took the car to the dealership and one of the "Front SAM module" was starting to go out. I went ahead and fixed it with the dealership and now everything works perfect! No more weird movements in my seats.

Yes, I love this car too. I just fixed a bunch of little quirks in it and gave it a tune-up and this things drives like a dream. The only thing I wish it had was bluetooth for music built in. I am currently using one of those FM transmitter things that connect to the cigarette lighter but it is so staticky.
