car values as gas is phased out
Anyone here concerned, as I am, that within the next 5-10 years petrol powered car values will plummet as governments force people into EVs?

I was working on electric vehicles in the 90s when California mandated the end of the ICE the first time.....I don't think it's going to go any better this time around.
Just wait until the electric only lawn equipment goes into effect in 2024 in CA. Reality laughs at your battery chain saw.
It's the same for cars- It'll be pricier to fill, but we'll still be tooling around in gas cars for a while yet.

The government can't force us to buy EVs but they sure can make it difficult for us not to. It is spending our tax money trying to force it down our throats. That has never worked.

I work for jcp&l let me tell you the gride will not handle car /home ac and all the other things most of the lines are from the 40s to the 60s they are old. What are you going to do with an old ev car the battery is 7000.00 to 15000.00 even if you replace the battery the motors are still old. The wiring in the car is getting bridal and old they are just junk. We can not make enough electricity with solar and windmills. just can not be done at this time maybe in 50 years. LOL can you see 800 cars at the charging station most gas stations do about 200 to 500 cars a day At 16 to 20 minutes at a time? My bud mark just paid 92000.00 for an ev truck and it could not tow his motorhome took it back raised hell and got a new f350.

I believe it when I see it I guess, but as said above. The ban of new gas cars is likely not gonna happen when politician said it would. Expect it to be extended many times. The challenges are not insurmountable, but they won't get solved in the next 10 years. There are so many challenges that politicians simply don't grasp and the EV industry just hypes over. We are nowhere near the production capacity of EVs where it could satisfy the new car demand, and even if all car manufacturers could theoretically ramp up their production, there is not enough lithium supply, and lithium mines are very very dirty and have a huge environmental impact where they are, but as many of these things, they are far away in countries with poverty and very lax environmental regulations. I guess just as long as they aren't in our backyards, right? I bet you nobody in the USA wants to live near a lithium mine.

These replies are encouraging. I can't see taking out a loan to buy an ugly inconvenient EV that looks the same as everybody else's. I can see the gov jacking fuel costs to the point where many cannot afford cars though. One of the green new deal scams is a vastly reduced number of cars on the road, with masses of people dependent on buses/transit etc.

i’ve worked for an EV battery co before.
i believe EV will gain popularity and ICE cars will still be feasible for a long time (our lifetimes) i think the cost of gas will go down. makes me feel less bad about driving a 12mph car hehe
