Roof opens until trunk lid straight up windows 1 3rd open B1010 Event Code Please help me fix it
Hi Guys:
I hope u r well. Can u help me fix my2004 SL500 AMG vario roof opening intermittent problem please? The opening cycle operates until the trunk lid is open straight up, then the windows open about one third of the way down. The pump is still running while I hold the center console switch open. If I release the switch, and hold it open again, the windows roll down a bit more. A few days ago the roof opened and shut normally. Weeks earlier I had the current problem again.
See the attached pdf file VarioRoofDiagnosticAid pages 14 and 19 of 23. The pictures may indicate S92 & S93 Shorted/Sticking, or S119 Open. However, neither picture shows the windows partially rolled down that I can see. I hope someone had the windows partially down symptom.
I switched S119 with a seemingly good switch from another car. (That roof does not work. So the switch may not be reliable. However, both switches click when opened to the right height.)
The S92&S93 and wiring are behind the closed roof headliner trims. I repaired a shorted wire on my SLK230. Can that be the problem?
I doubt the B1010 voltage event is the problem.

I'm not sure that you know how to interpret the switch positions. Not recognized means that the control does not see the switch contact closed. It is not a fault and in many cases it is the status you are looking for.
For example, with the trunk straight up, S119 should be recognized (trunk up) S69/2 & S69/3 should be not recognized (roof not locked to windshield). You don't need to see the switches or wiring to know what the controller is seeing. If the status is inconsistent with reality, then you need to dig further. For example, if your S69/2-3 is showing recognized, but you know they are not locked you probably have a shorted wire (could be sticking switches, but they are in series so both would have to stick).
You didn't mention if the flaps are deploying. If they deploy, S119 was recognized. Note that shorts during roof movement or switches losing/gaining contact can cause some scenarios not depicted in the guide. It assumes the problem exists at the beginning of the cycle.
The roof decided to open again. Does the rear right roof pillar headliner trim pull straight off to expose the wiring? I will check the wiring for abrasion.
Someone attached a pipe where the post was to the right roof close mechanism. See pictures. Can this be causing intermittent WRONG status roof open or closed signals? How do I fix it?
The wiring is on the left rear roof pillar. I guess this could be pinched at a fold. I think this is from the S92&3. Could that be the source for shorted or sticking switches signal?
The hose may or may not do a good job of actuating S69/1, which would affect the roof closed signal. If S69/1 doesn't get depressed, the roof will be closed but not latched and you will get a 'close roof' warning or something like that when you start driving.
A shorted/sticking issue with S69/2&3 would mostly likely be a short between the two wires or a short to ground along the frame. Switches are wired in series, so both would have to stick to be 'stuck', highly unlikely.
The wiring and physical functions of MICROSWITCHES S69/2&3 seem OK. The typical blue wire abrasion is not found. However the blue and brown wires disappear beside the S114 wiring which seems routed through a pinch point. See new pictures. The S91 microswitch seems physically functional using the previously pictured makeshift pipe post. It easily clicks when a post is stuck into its hole.
Can someone read the actual data below when the roof was stuck, and say why it was stuck please? I think the 1 of 3 Frame indicates switch functionalities. For instance:

I believe that 360 All windows open should be recognized. Are all four windows properly going to the short stroke position when the respective door is opened and then closing when the door is closed? If not, I would denormalize with the scan tool and normalize with the window switches. Also, check for CAN communication issues between the roof module and the two door modules. If it gets stuck in that position again, check all four window positions (fronts in the door modules and rears in the roof module). I think it is stopping because it does not recognize the windows as being properly opened and will not allow the roof to move.
I was a little confused with the 453/454 both being recognized, but I think that is because it is in stop mode.
Interesting… so the windows… I may just need to close them with both switches, then hold for at least one second or “synchronize” to normalize. I will synchronize the windows next, before I put the top up. How do I denormalize with the scan tool? How do I check for CAN communication?
When the roof gets stuck, I see the 2 front windows have just come down/open about 1 3rd. I have not noted the rear window positions.
I was waiting to move the roof until I have analyzed and tried all I can. Then with the top up, I’ll check for windows going to short stroke position.
Thanks… I synchronized the windows. The top worked for several cycles. I filled the slow leaking pump, and cleaned wet connectors. Now the left rear side window will not move; and the top stops opening with the trunk straight up and other windows 1 3rd down. I conclude the drivers rear side window is the problem.
How do I fix it? I disconnected both batteries, pulled the 40 amp fuse in the engine compartment on the right. It seems odd that it worked intermittently, and won’t work at all now.
You can check it with your scan tool (RVC module). It sounds like maybe a motor or hall sensor problem to me, but it could also be the regulator mechanism which is known to fail. It's possible that you have a corroded connector or bad wire, but most likely you will need to replace the motor/regulator. Not a fun job because of location/access.
Should I try the driver’s side double window switch? It was not mounted properly, and I wedged it in place. Is there a way to test the switch? I am not sure how to test the RVC module Autel Diaglink or DAS?

With any good scanner, you can see the rear window data like position, relay status, command status, motor current draw, etc. in the RVC module. Use that info to troubleshoot. You can check the switch in the door module, but if it works for the front window, it's fine.
I hear a click from the left rear side window when I activate the window switch in the rear window lowering position. Please review the live data from the RVC module Left Side Rear Window, and see what I can do to fix it. SL Diaglink 02262023 Window left side rear not working

You need to watch 070, 150, and 082 when the window should be opening. If the relay is actuated, but current is 0, the most likely culprit is the relay in the RVC module. The contacts get burnt and will arc out as soon as a load is applied. I'm a little confused by 072 and 077. I thought that 072 should be not recognized and 077 should also be not recognized. Position is 0, which is fully closed. However, try opening while monitoring the values I mentioned. If the relay does not actuate, you need to figure out why. If it does and current is 0, you either have a bad motor or module.
just worked on a front passenger window on an '09 yesterday that was doing pretty much the same thing. It was a bad door module.

I want to pull the left side rear window while the top is up. Is this a big problem? Will I be able to pull the large formed plastic cover, much less the window and motor assembly? Must I detach the window from the assembly? Can I activate the window down sensor to lower the top first? Where is that sensor? Can I do anything with the wiring like power up the motor or sensor?
When I get the motor assembly out or before removal, how do I make certain I have a bad motor to replace?

How do I test the new motor assembly? Can I clip my 15 amp battery charger negative lead to the assembly, and positive red clamp to a wire pictured here, press charge on the charger, see the assembly moves appropriately?
It looks like they included the connector and harness pigtail. If the leads are long enough, just touch them to your battery posts. If they are too short, twist on some extension wires. You want the two large wires, the small ones are the hall sensor.
Thanks for the great help guys. With your assistance I have fixed the hydraulic electrical vario roof, the central locking and total vacuum system, and fully restored the hydraulic suspension with new critical OEM parts. Having these 3 systems squared away adds a tremendous amount of value.
The window motor was faulty. I removed the electrical connector at the motor, and connected it to the new motor assembly. This allowed me to lower the roof. I removed the last sheet metal above the assembly, the formed plastic piece, and (2) 13mm nuts to allow the motor assembly with window attached to easily lift out. The electrical connector clips were broken on at least 1 side. I used a fireplace poker hook to pull the connector up on the far side. I pried up with a long screwdriver on the other side. Then I pulled the wire bundle up to slide the connector apart.

I would start by scanning for faults. If found, you can paste the code into google search and get insights. Some of us can help too. I swapped the roof control module, and that was not the problem. I posted live data, and Mike recognized the window problem.
