2007 AMG SL55
Top problems on 2007 SL 55 AMG
All of a sudden, my top stopped working!! When the button is pushed, the windows start to move, but then stop and there is a noise of a motor running in the right side by the rear window. I did have to jump the car off because it sit to long without being cranked. I had Oriellys check the rear battery and it was good. But his device wouldn’t show how much charge was is in. Could that be a possibility?

Will the right rear window go up/down with the switch? It sounds like you have a bad regulator or gearbox and the motor is just freewheeling. Windows must be functional, normalized, and lowered before the roof will move.

It won’t stow away. You hit the button to make it fold back, but all that happens is that the windows move down a little, then go back up and everything stops. Now, the trunk goes up and down no problem which tells me the hydraulic system is working. So I’m hoping it’s just a sensor or something. The flaps on the trunk lid are fully closed, so unless that switch is messed up, that’s not the problem either. ??

If you had to jump start the starter battery, maybe your systems battery (in the trunk) needs to be charged or replaced. A bad systems battery causes all kinds of bad behavior in these cars.

I did go by Orielys and had the battery checked and it checked out good. But apparently he didn’t know how to use it because he couldn’t tell me how much charge was in it. I will charge it and go from there. Thanks for the response!

Have you tried normalizing the windows? Pull up on switch to close front window, hold for a couple of seconds after it is closed (do this even if it is already closed). Release and reengage switch for rear window, hold for a couple of seconds after it is fully closed. Do the same for the other side.
