Loving this car....?? Is that possible?

Hello all. Happy Easter. Just took my SL600 out of winter storage. Marveled at beautiful design and impeccable and shiny finish. Disconnected my 18 battery chargers...started immediately with a 12-cylinder growl...no warning lights...turned on heated seat....started messaging seat function...added music...then after warmup...stepped into throttle enthusiastically.

have noted how many people report major issues...and also others who've driven theirs for >100K miles....

Begs the question if we love or hate this car more..?

Hello and Happy Easter to you, too! That’s a mighty fine looking SL600! I, too, am in the “lover” category for this car. Admittedly, the SL 550 is a bit of a pooch since my daily driver is a Tesla X-please don’t hate me. 😝😝😝

I admire the classic line of this beautiful car every time I drive her!

Positively in then Love category. I've owned a 2004 SL600, 2007 SL550 and a 2003 SL55 AMG, and never want to be without an R230. Beautiful, timeless design, looks as fantastic today as when they first penned it on a drafting table. And that red looks wonderful.

Very few people post here unless they have a problem, so you cant judge how common problems cars are.
If everyone posted here after every enjoyable drive, this site would probably bring the internet down

Thank you all for your replies. Uplifting to hear that many of us continue to have an appreciation for this very beautiful automobile. A little positivity can go along way, eh?

Huge love for our 2009 SL550 here. It continues to amaze me with the ability to fulfill so many roles - from gentle boulevard cruiser to back-roads demon :-). The M273 may end up being one of the most reliable and all-around great V8s from Mercedes as time goes by. Doesn't have the power of the SL55 or the V12s, but it's more than enough imho to make the car very entertaining.

I love my R230! It’s my favorite any 2 seater I’ve owned…even more enjoyable to me than many 2+2’s I’ve owned over the years. From 911 Turbos to several Corvette ZO6 and Nissan GTR’s, this is the keeper of the bunch.

Mine is a 2006 SL65 with 27K miles on her with small mods added by me to update the glaring ages stuff. Dry carbon wrap in the interior wood, front grill, tires (sticky R compound rears) and some details pieces such as light bulbs to LED’s etc…

Loving the ABC suspension regardless of what terror stories I read or hear in many places. I say it’s an advanced system that requires maintenance and as stuff let’s go simply replace. If it’s catastrophic, then just go coil over and sway bars and call it even.

Some pics to share.

Guys, so far I am happy with my SL500 even though it can't accelerate as fast as the SL55 or SL65, since I am not a racer but a quiet cruiser who enjoys the top down with the whole sky on top of my head unafraid of breaking down away from my home. But......if the right opportunity appears I would get one of these SL65...that will provide me with bragging rights even if I only will use all these ponies 1% of time and spent 30% more money on spark plugs!

I am still loving my '09 Silver Arrow. I expect a significant ($1k-$2k) repair yearly along with maintenance. 112k miles and counting. Was delivered in May 2008 so it's 16 years old this month. Have owned it for the last 14.

I love mine so much it's in the garage under blankets and only comes out on sunny days.
