2004 SL600
Bought a 2004 Mercedes SL600. Need guidance

So I just recently bought a 2004 SL600 for a BARGAIN.

It has 90k miles and was worth $13,000. The power and handling on this luxury roadster has not left me wanting.

Needless to say, I absolutely love it and was astounded to see how many people love R230’s! I didn’t even know that SL55’s and 65’s existed until I saw this forum! AMAZING CARS. So hello everyone!

Anywho, i’m sure you all know that these cars have a plethora of issues. ( Especially my year after some scrolling.)

sorry if this is a noob thing to do I’m pretty new to forums, but I was wondering if anyone could guide me in the right direction for fixes and DIY’s

I plan to get rid of my ABC in the car sadly. The juice isn’t worth a squeeze for me. As well as some fixes that need to be done with my Key fob.
(For some reason I can only unlock the car but can’t lock it)

Also my pneumatic trunk opens every time I hit the unlock button smh.

I AM counting my blessing though. The top has no issues and the ABC hasn’t had any catastrophic failures yet.

I’m also in the market for new key fobs and programming if anyone can point me in the right direction for that.

I do not plan to straight pipe it or tune it. I like how quite and unassuming it is 😂

The ultimate sleeper car (in my noob opinion)

anyways. Nice meeting you all and I hope I can learn a lot from you all.

Sincerely, your new student.

edit: I kept my daily don’t worry lol. And I should mention I have reasonable money to throw at the car.

As far as i know, find are dealer only. Keyless go is about 650. But shop dealers. I found there is a difference.

I have no dealer close by. But i do have 4 of them about the same distance from me. When i bought a replacement key, one dealer was significantly cheaper than the others. None assigned the same price.

I’m not sure if I even NEED a new key. The problem with this key is that it’s a keyless go model car, but the lock button doesn’t even work. I can’t tell if it’s the fob or something else wrong with the car. The key fob unlocks and but I can’t even test it by holding lock and unlock for 6 seconds because the button doesn’t even work.

Does ot start with keyless go with the key in your pocket? When you touch the door handle with the key in your pocket, does the door unlock without touching the key?
Will the trunk unlock and open using the key button?

On my 2004 SL600, the keyless go includes a credit card sized electronic card that is needed to use keyless go. I have a 2008 S-Class with keyless go, and that is different, all that's needed is the keyfob. Technology changed in those 4 years. Your 2004 will not work unless you have the card that came with the car. I doubt a dealer or anyone else can get you a card, if you don't have it.

My 2004 SL600 nor my 2004 SL500 require the card. Both only need the key fob for keyless go.
