Thank you both for your responses. I have checked eBay (even contacted overseas sellers) but no luck. I also did submit a request on car-parts.com a while back but no responses so far.
I did contact a few people on Facebook, that claim to part out compatible SL550's. So far, only a scammer has responded!
Overall, I find it is quite a bit harder to find parts for an SL550, compared to my S550. I think about 4-5 times more S class cars were produced, compared with SL class. SLs may be more of collector cars, too.
If you can't find one, have a go at repairing it yourself maybe.
I've patched up some of the under-body panelling pretty successfully with tek screws, alu strip etc. You might need to source some similar hard plastic sheet. Sprayed matt black it will all blend in well.
As far as I understand, the liners before 2009 and after 2011 (possibly 2012) are different. I have found various pictures and they look quite different.
I may be able to patch my liner up as I have plastic welding equipment. I did patch minor cracks on the under-floor panels. But, it would be nicer to get a clean used fender liner as it is more visible than an under-floor panel.

Thanks David. I actually contacted this seller a while back and asked whether he would ship to the US but I never received any response.
I today tried to add to my eBay cart and check out but I got a message saying that the seller would not ship to the US.
So, the only way would be if someone in the UK or EU purchased this for me and shipped on to the US.
The fender liner material is quite rubbery and folds up nicely into a 25 inch long roll that is about 20 inches in diameter.
The weight is about 3.25 lbs.
So, doable with some assist
Annoying though that such an item seems unavailable in the US.
Thanks,
/John.
Edit: This made me do some research whether there are companies specializing in forwarding goods purchased in the UK to other countries.
It turns out that this is quite common: https://www.google.com/search?q=ebay...arding+company
I created an account for forward2me.com and got a quote for 25x20x20 inches weighing 3.5 lbs: 150 UK pounds, which is some $185 US.
Very pricey and total would be around $245 US. Given that, it would make more sense to patch up my old fender liner with my plastic repair tools.
So, it seems I'd better be patient and try to find one in the US.
I have been totally unable to buy this fender liner online. If anyone has it for sale used, I'm interested.

Well, well, I totally understand your issues finding a fender liner...Myself, I am a proud owner of an 05 SL 500, r230...I've been searching for a Left rear inside wheel liner for a long time...let's just say on and off again for over a year ...no luck...even the parts dealers for some reason don't bother to get back to me, or they are unfamiliar with their own vehicles and parts ...I have found a couple times that a a SET OF LINERS are available, however, that is from a private seller who won't offer a single one..and the SET...is way too expensive for me...or they have one for sale in another country which shipping alone is close to
$150 ...I'm not paying that ...I went ahead and researched and found you can get something online that may be able to be customized (simple cutting) to somewhat temporarily fix the need. My issue was that where I recently moved to (Idaho, from California in the USA) rain and snow in the winter will start to make some issues after time ...with no rear liner, moisture will DEFINITELY affect any systems in the trunk area....which we know...is not something you want to deal with ( electrical nitemares)...keep looking...eventually we will find what we are looking for my friend...good luck with your searching, PEACEOUT!!

I actually lucked out as DavidCA assisted me with purchasing the L/R liner in the UK and forwarded it to me.
I can donate my old L/R liner to you if you are interested (once I've received the new one - to make sure I don't end up with no liner at all).
It requires some plastic repair to be 100% okay but it does protect the rear valve unit and the inner side of the fender okay. See my original image for its condition.
I bought my SL550 from a used car dealer in Los Angeles a couple of months ago. He told me that some bolt was loose when he picked up the car from auction and that the rear wheel was rubbing towards the wheel liner.
I don't know how the rear damage by the muffler could have happened though.
That would be AWESOME! To say the least, and much appreciated!
