What is the way to remove the right/passenger side headlight washer nozzle?

Does the whole front bumper need to come off to replace the passengers/right side headlight washer on a 2004 r230?

IIRC REMOVE THE WHEEL and the front part of the wheel liner. You may also need to remove the forward splash shield.

I have those things off and have been able to remove the plastic bracket that stabilizes the nozzle unit in place. But there does NOT appear to be a way to get the nozzle mechanism off. All the MB publications say the whole bumper assembly has to be removed. I just wondered it some had a short cut.

It has been over a year since I installed one. IIRC there are 2 bolts for the v shaped bracket, and 1 bolt in the middle top of the washer mechanism. You also disconnect the fluid supply hose. U can find the part on ebay for analysis.

Thanks for your comment. I have gotten the V-shaped bracket off. It seems to be there just to stabilize the nozzle assembly. In my photo you’ll see an arrow pointing to a part of the nozzle. Is that the part that you say there is an extra screw or screws? And if so, do you have to take the bumper off to get to those? If you have to take the bumper off to get to that area/screw/screws it seems like a horrible design. But then again we know these cars . . .
The circled area is the V-shaped bracket that stabilizes the unit. It slides off easily. The arrow is pointing to an area that I suspect might have a bolt or bolts. It appears to be a blind approach so I’m not sure how to access it short of taking the bumper off.

Yes, I think there is a bolt there, IIRC. It was a while back. Sorry I really don't remember everything. I do know that I could, and did, pull the hose off, put in an o-ring, and reattach hose without removing the bumper cover again. You might be able to get an open end wrench on the bolt head.

Anyhow, it is not that difficult to remove the front bumper cover. IIRC there is a benzbits procedure you can find online to remove the bumper cover.

+1 to what @aegea said, it's really very easy to remove/replace the front bumper cover. Even though it looks like it could be difficult/awkward due to it's size and flexibility, it's easily a one man job, no need for a helper. The bumper cover has channels/tracks on each inner side which guide it into place when you're installing it.

I used this guide - the video is a facelift car so it's slightly different from my car, but close enough to be helpful. Just be careful to disconnect wiring as needed. If you've got Parktronic, there's a single multi-pin connector on the left side to disconnect, you don't have to disconnect each individual sensor. As I recall, for the fog/ driving lights and side markers there wasn't a disconnectable harness plug so I removed the bulb holders from the light housings. Also, for the headlight washers there are small plastic "C" clips that you pull out to release the hose/fitting from the nozzle - be careful when pulling these clips, they can easily go flying off to be lost in some dark corner and they're not available as a replacement part, you have to buy the entire fitting and they're like $30 at the dealer (guess how I know this :/ )

Since you're just replacing a headlight washer nozzle you may be able to leave all wiring plugged in and pull the cover just far enough to access the nozzle.
